We got a later start this year on our travel plans because we closed on our new “sticks and bricks” (Motorcoach lingo for a house). After months of watching the house being built we were so excited with the closing on May 27th. We were able to clean out our storage unit, unload some of the coach, move out of our Casita (we sold that on June 2nd), and finally cleaned out our trailer (sold that as well). As you can see, we are engaging in a life style change. We do plan on keeping the coach and traveling throughout the summer months as we learned that it is much too hot in Florida in the summer.
So, onto our summer coach travels and back working on the RV Traveling with the Busse Bus blog!
We finally got the Busse Bus reloaded up (we are going to have to get used to that),

hooked up the truck and headed out of the Myakka River Motorcoach Resort around 2pm on July 28th. We had no plans defined except that we needed to be in Winter Park, CO to use our townhouse on August 4th. Our friends, Rhody and Barry Hausauer were in Angel Fire, NM and asked us to come out and join them. We decided that if we did some hard days of driving that we could reach them by Friday – hell, it was only 1900 miles!
Since we left late in the day we only made it to Bonifay, FL to spend the night at the Outback Springs RV Resort. Knocked off 450 miles! No pictures as we pulled in late, ate dinner and went to bed.
The next day we drove 619 miles to Fernbrook RV Park in Longview, TX. Pulled in, set up, ate, and then went to bed. Still so hot – can’t wait until we make it to the mountains to get some relief. No pictures.
Another long day of driving put us into Amarillo, TX to stay at the Love’s RV Hookup. The drive through Dallas was hellacious! Traffic and construction made it slow going:

485 miles and we got in in time to visit with Traci Cortesi, a BeautiControl friend of Katrina’s. We drove the truck into her cute boutique called Trendz where Katrina purchased some must-haves clothes.
Here’s a picture of Katrina and Traci:

Katrina and I then went to have some legit Mexican food at Braceros Mexican Grill and Bar. It was delicious!
The following morning we were on our way for the final leg that would bring us to Monte Verde RV Camp in Angel Fire, NM. We had a terrible time getting out of Amarillo as we needed diesel badly. We thought that it would be no big deal as we stayed at a Love’s Truck Stop but the storms the previous night knocked out power to the pumps. We had to find a gas station that could handle the Busse Bus II. After trying one nearby without success we found one that would take us a bit out of our way, but beggars can’t be choosers. One problem was that we needed to go through this underpass:

Very scary! We made it and fueled up and we were on a way – about an hour later than anticipated. Oh well, life on the road. Only 261 miles but the last 68 took us a long time as we had to keep it slow to maneuver the switchbacks as we headed up into the mountains. Much cooler temperatures – wahoo!
Lots of miles, but we made it!
See the next post for the fun that we had with the Hausauers in New Mexico.
