On the drive up to Cedarville to see our friends, Ron & Ruthie Sherman from Myakka River Motorcoach Resort (MRMR), and stay on their lot whilst their coach was in the shop we decided to wait out the wind on the Mackinac bridge by pulling into the Odawa Casino in Mackinaw City.

Not much going on at the casino mid afternoon!

After waiting about three hours (it’s nice to have the coach to make lunch to bide your time) we decided to go ahead anyway and followed the escort car across going 20 mph. We were happy being on the other side!

Ron met us at their site in the Cedarville RV Park.

Once we got settled in we headed over to their boat for dinner and drinks. Ruthie made us a delicious salisbury steak meal complete with mashed potatoes and corn. They live on their boat during the summers and rent down at MRMR for the winter.

They have been going down to MRMR for the last six seasons.

Aft cabin

After getting caught up on life we headed back to the Busse Bus for a good nights rest.

The next morning Katrina let Bear play in the water.

Toy or duck?

He was very interested in the ducks!

Ron picked up Katrina and headed off to play pickleball. Since it was chilly and windy we decided to for a hike instead of catching a boat ride. We went to The Nature Conservancy which is situated along the coast.

Check out these pictures:

The water was a little chilly

It was beautiful! Seeing trees growing up over the huge boulders was very interesting:

Overgrowing the rocks
Great hike!

There was an area where people called ”Narnia” and constructed a post and lantern:

After returning through the wardrobe we got cleaned up and headed over to the Les Cheneaux Distillers to try some of their liquors and craft beer. Their slogan was ”Distillers who brew” was very apt.

Good beer and an excellent pub dinner.

Another day and another start with pickleball for Ron and Katrina. Afterwards we headed out on their runabout and toured the Les Cheneaux Islands.

Having a blast on the boat

It reminded us of the Thousands Islands we espied a few years ago in the lower St. Lawrence Seaway north of New York. Look at this house built on the tiny island:

It was still a bit chilly, but Ruthie and Katrina figured out a way to enjoy the ride:

It’s not too cold for a boat ride!

We stopped in the town of Hessel and had lunch at The Islander Bar:

Parking via golf cart or lawn mower?

On the return trip we boated by this huge tanker getting loaded with xxxx which is mined nearby and used to create concrete. We looked very small by comparison:

On the way back we got to see the Busse Bus snuggled into their spot:

The Busse Bus is hiding from us, but we spied it!

For dinner the Sherman’s took us to a local restaurant called Snows Bar & Grill to watch a band called “ShipHeads On Shore” out back.

Listening to SOS

The band was really good and we ended up closing the place down – 10:25pm. That was about 1/2 hour after the sun had set. It was fun and when they started up the firepit we enjoyed standing / dancing around it to keep warm.

Before we left the next morning we had breakfast together as a farewell at the Cattails Cove restaurant. It was nice enough to sit outside.

Farewell Shermans until MRMR

Too bad we were heading out back south to Petoskey as we were having such a wonderful time with the Shermans. I hope we make it back over the bridge!
