After leaving Nashville we headed back up to the Louisville area to met some Myakkan friends (Sam, LeeAnn, Kirt and Pam) to try some more bourbon places. We stayed at Grandma’s RV Camping in Shepherdsville.

Not the greatest of places, but good in a pinch. Interesting statue:

We got in early in order to get to our bourbon testing at 3pm. It was fun when your friends have bloody mary’s waiting for you upon arrival.

We all got into our truck

and headed over to Heaven Hill for a tasting.

Heaven Hill is located in Bardstown about 1/2 hour away. Great tour and tasting!

They also had a nice store with all their brands for sale:

We loaded back into the truck

with our booty in hand and headed over to the Scout & Scholar Brewing Company for some eats. I found it:

This way…..

After some good food we took this picture before heading back to the coaches:

Good times!

Once back at the coaches we decided that we should taste test a few of our purchases until:

Nighty night.

Sometime during the evening we all decided that it would be a great idea to get up early and head over to Buffalo Trace when they opened to see if we could get on a tasting. So we got up at 6:30am and were on the road about 7:45am hoping to make the 9:00am opening. We arrived a little late but still got a tasting scheduled for 10:45am. That left us an hour to see some of the grounds and purchase some bourbon.

Buffalo Trace brings out a special bourbon every day and today it was Blanton’s. A very good day! You can buy Blanton’s in a liquor store for around $200 a bottle, at the factory: $63! We each purchased our limit of one bottle. The tasting was good although I have to admit that I wasn’t in the mood for bourbon if you catch my drift.

For lunch we decided to head back to the Cliffside to have a burger.

As good as it was ten days ago when we went with Yolanda!

Since we were close to other distilleries we decided to go and check them out. Our first stop was at Castle & Key where Katrina and I been three years ago. Since we were their their bourbon was ready so I was eager to get a bottle. Unfortunately they were closed so we only got to see the grounds from afar.

Then we went over to Woodford Reserve and walked around and did a little shopping. None of us were up for a tasting – even after a greasy burger!

We headed home and a few hours later (read between the lines here – naps) we went to dinner at El Tarasco Mexican Restaurant. The food was surprisingly good and the margaritas were wonderful! Afterwards we headed back to the coaches where we spent a quiet evening talking.

The next morning we said our goodbyes for the next few months as we all headed in different directions.
