We decided to drive along the Pacific coast in Washington and Oregon down to Newport

to stay at the Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort. Although we did get a couple of beautiful views of the ocean, the added miles and the twisty curvy road wasn’t worth it!

Next time we will stay on the Interstate.

We pulled into the Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort about 4pm and got set up.

Our new neighbors from California, Betty and Jim East, were enjoying wine o’clock so we walked over, introduced ourselves, and joined them. A few other owners stopped by so we got to meet some people right away. Our site had fantastic views of the ocean:

The neat aspect of this resort, besides sitting on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, was the trails that lead around the woods and down to the beach. Bear is going to love playing in the ocean as Oregon beaches are open to canines.

Did you see the lighthouse through the trees? Here’s a closer view of the lighthouse from the other side of the resort:

Here’s our spot (49) and our view:

The next day Katrina had booked us for a glass blowing class at Oregon Coast Glassworks where we created a vase and a bowl:

It was so much fun! We will see the final product later in the week. We think that our pieces will look great in our casita!

Based on glass instructor’s recommendation, we headed to Nye Beach and Cafe Stephanie for lunch:

Great little place! Salmon tacos and Ahi Tuna sandwich along with homemade soups really hit the spot!

When we got back Katrina baked her first pie ever using the wild blackberries that we picked.

She did a great job!

The next day we wanted to head up to Pacific City to check out the scene. Our friends that we met in Myakka, Kris and Jessie Minton, who live close by (in Eugene) informed us on a couple of places to check out. We got a later start than we anticipated and when we went to start up the truck – nothing! Dead as a door nail. Our neighbors gave us a jump so that we could run out and do some shopping and find a place for dinner, in lieu of driving all the way to Pacific City. We ended up at the outlet mall in Lincoln City. We left the truck running the entire time as we were afraid to turn it off in case it didn’t start up again. After purchasing a couple of things we started to head back to Pacific Shores and stopped at Snug Harbor as it was rated decently.

After ordering a drink, we perused the menu and decided against staying to eat. We continued our journey back to the resort and pulled over in Depoe Bay as it is the whale sightseeing spot in the world (their words, not mine). After looking at the ocean for two minutes we didn’t see a whale, but we did espy The Sticks, a small place with fish & chips. Very decent “fast” food!

Once we got back, we walked down to the beach to let Bear play in the sand. He looked at us like “this has been here the entire time we have been here and you just now take me here?”. Poor dog!

He loved playing and running and chasing the seagulls!

I got up early to take the truck into the local dealership to have it checked out. Tower Ram thought that they could possibly fit the truck in sometime throughout the day. There at 7:20am and I got a call around 9:30am that everything had checked out and that the systems had been reset and that the truck was ready to get picked up. They could not determine what caused the deadness however. Thank you Tower for fitting the truck in!

Meanwhile, Katrina and Betty went on a whale watching adventure up in Depoe Bay. They really got a show:

In addition to seeing whales, they also got to see other sea life like sea lions, jellyfish, and sea birds. The little rubber boat, called a Zodiac, held six of them and they didn’t have to go too far out in the ocean to see the whales. I guess that Depoe Bay real is the whale watching capital of the world!

Jim and I headed up there to meet the gals for lunch at The Horn Public House and Brewery.

Check out the beer “spout” on the glass. Very clever. We were the first ones in a little after noon and got to sit by the windows on the second story. Wonderful food and beer! We even got to see some whales from the windows!

Katrina and I then drove over to the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area to view the lighthouse. They had refurbished it in 2005 and it still looks great!

We even saw an American eagle:

As a bonus, we walked down to Cobble Beach and got to see seals playing in the water.

The interesting part of the beach was that it was comprised of small grey and very smooth rocks. When the waves ebbed out the sound of the cobble stones rolling over each other made a soothing clacking sound. Very cool!

The following day we went back to the Oregon Coast Glassworks to pick up our art:

I think that they turned out well! Katrina thought that her vase had a bit too much pink in it for the casita. I disagree.

From there we went for a late lunch or early dinner at Tidal Raves:

Since we went at such an off time, there was a only about a twenty minute wait for this tiny restaurant. The food was fantastic:

Shrimp cakes, crab flatbread, shrimp on the barbie, steak and lobster! Yummy! The best part was that we had a window seat where we could watch for whales. I counted 17 whale tails during our meal with plenty of other sightings of spouts, fins, and surfacing. Very fun stop!

Because of our early dinner, we got back during daylight and we were able to get Bear back down to the beach:

We got back to the coach to catch another beautiful sunset through the cloud cover:

As the sun sets on another one of our stops, we ready the Busse Bus for the next stop – Eugene, to visit Kris and Jessie Minton.
