We left the AIM Rally and drove down to a Harvest Host location called Prichard’s Distillery in Kelso, TN. We decided to go there with Alan and Sheila Godfrey on our way to Memphis for a wedding. We pulled into the distillery and quickly set up so that we could drive over to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery for a guided tour.

The four of us very much enjoyed the tour and we learned a lot about the art of whiskey making.

What a wonderful place! The local water source is iron-free and runs at a constant 56 degrees and it is called Cave Springs:

It was interesting to learn that Jack is the largest distillery in the world and that their parent company, Brown-Forman, owns so many other distilleries around the world. Jack is the oldest distillery in the country and sells over 10 million barrels of whiskey a year to 170 different countries. The best seller is Old No. 7 and it was interesting learn that no one knows what the number 7 stands for. There are plenty of theories, if you are interested – take the tour! Of course we had to taste:

We liked it! Hey Mikey! Bought a couple of bottles for the road (not while driving, oh course!).

In case you ever wondered, we do know Jack!

We also had a little time to walk around the town of Lynchburg and check out the local vibe – mostly hawking Jack peraphernalia like this stool:

We returned to Prichard’s and got a private tour of a small batch distillery. What a stark difference between the two! We got to try some grain alcohol straight from the still! Talk about burn.

Pictured above is the renovated school house that houses their store, sampling room, and labeling. Also our coaches parked next door. They even had 30 amp hook ups for us!

Prichard’s is known for it’s rum of which after sampling, we purchased a bottle. What a great Harvest Host location!

For dinner, the four of us drove into the town of Fayetteville to eat at Cahoots.

They developed Cahoot’s from the old jail and a couple of the tables were placed in the old cells! I had the most delicious blackened ribeye steak! One of the best during our adventures. That just goes to show you that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

We played some games at the Great Godfrey (Godfrey’s coach’s name) before retiring. The next morning we were out early as we needed to get to Memphis for a wedding. We learned later that the Godfrey’s got stuck in the mud at Prichard’s and were delayed for hours as they tried to free their coach. Sorry Sheila and Alan that we were gone and unable to help you out!
