We stayed at the Jekyll Island Campground which must have been established back in the 50’s.  Nice place, just dated.  We had one of the newer sites which was a pull through. Easy to get the Busse Bus situated.  I’ve been to Hyde Park in London and now I’ve stayed on Jekyll Island – so I’ve done Jekyll and Hyde.

We had to pay $8.00 toll to get on the island and each time we came and went.  The island kinda reminded me of a mix between Cape Cod and Mackinaw Island.

Quaint and geared to bike riding (although cars are allowed).  We did get to take a nice bike ride

and rode to the Driftwood Beach:

Went to the Horton House Historic Site and got to read the placards and learn all about the settlers of this island.  I also learned a new-to-me ancient building technique called tabby.  The monuments were made from it.

The next day we pedaled around the island and ended up at Tortuga Jacks for a drink and appetizer before heading back to the rig.

People were practicing social distancing.  Not many people around.

The next day we drove up to East Beach on St. Simons Island.

We let Bear play in the water:

People were not practicing “social distancing”:

We heard that President Trump was going to make a major announcement in about an hour regarding the Corona Virus.  Thought that we should go immediately to the grocery store to insure that we had enough food to last a few weeks.  Spent $400.00 – acted like the other crazies out there!  Just heard that all the restaurants and bars will be closed – carry out only.  Good news, no shelter-in-place for us.  Bad news, we have lots of food to eat up!

When I’ve told you that we live in a small world, I mean it!  Check this story out:  A couple of months ago the Ambria gang was talking about taking a bourbon bicycle tour with Webber Cycling Tours.  Barb and Tom Klein (Ambria) had met Mark Webber and his wife on a Danube river cruise last summer.  Our group could not make this October work so we decided not to go in 2020.  Fast forward two months and the Ambria girls are group texting showing each other pictures of where they were hunkering down when one of them accidentally posts on the text string that included Mark.  He shows them a picture of the Jekyll Island area.  Kat sees it and asks him, “Are you on Jekyll Island?”  Yes, he lives there.  We contacted him and then met him at his house about two miles from our campground.

Since it was March 17th, we had a shot of Irish Whiskey.  Told you it was a small world after all!

We needed to find a place to stay for awhile and hunker down so we talked with Dan and Sarah Allen who we met a few weeks back about staying with them at their house in Hilton Head.  We found a place to store the Busse Bus (with electric) so that we could stay in the lovely house.

Pack our bags, Bear’s things, and planned on leaving the next morning to head farther north.
