Pulled into Hyco Lake around 3:00pm from Excel Truck Group – without any dashboard lights coming on – yay!  We were staying at our friends’, Laurie Versaggi Calfee and John Calfee’s, lake house.

Bulletin:  Laurie just informed me that the house is called “Serenity Point” so I just updated this post to include this latest information.  Thanks Laurie and great name!

They are the same people that let us stay at their beach house in Indian Shores, Florida.  Serenity Point is beautiful!

With fantastic views:

It is unfortunate that they can’t be here with us enjoying the cooler fall weather and wonderful colors of autumn!

We did get a chance to get out onto the lake and pontoon around a bit before sunset.  Ordered a pizza from Aunt Millie’s in the metropolis of Milton, NC for pick up.  Again, I’m a Chicago boy who thinks that the only real pizza has to be at least three inches deep and that you need a knife and fork to eat it.

The next day we waited around for a FedEx delivery until about 3:00pm and then we took the pontoon boat to cruise around the lake in 70 degree weather.

All three of us thoroughly enjoyed exploring the lake.  Although, I have to admit that I think Bear enjoyed it the most!  He loves pontoons!

Off to Roxboro to pick up some groceries and a stop for dinner at the Clarksville Station, a retro-fitted train depot:

Pretty good food, but expensive beer – really, seven dollars for a Corona?  In North Carolina?  Really?

The next day we headed off to the PNC Stadium to watch our beloved Blackhawks play the Carolina Hurricanes.  I learned  three things:

  1. When it’s 70 degrees outside and you are attending an ice hockey game, it is ok to tailgate in the parking lot beforehand.
  2. Some ice hockey teams have cheerleaders.
  3. The Blackhawks are going to have a very long season!

Disappointing final.  0-4.  Hawks don’t look good.

The following day we tried a local vineyard called Rock Of Ages.  Beautiful place out in the country:

The wine was OK, not at all like the California reds.

On the way to the vineyard we kept passing these structures:

And we didn’t know what they were so we asked the gal at the winery.  The old log cabins used to dry tobacco with wood burning fireplaces and the new ones are aluminum and use propane.  Interesting to see the changes in the structures and techniques over 100 years or so.

We hurried back to the lake house as we had pressing business to complete that night:

Mission accomplished!

Upon pulling out the next morning we had to back the Busse Bus up the driveway and onto the small cul-de-sac.  It took about a 17-point turnaround to get the bus headed in the right direction.  But, we made it and we were on our way to Raleigh.

Thank you again to Laurie and John!  You found a real gem in the lake house!

Beautiful sunrise or sunset! I’m impressed that you put the whole puzzle together in one night! And the 17 point turn around. I would have been looking for a beer at around 8!

Kat and I rocked the puzzle – it was only 1000 pieces so not too bad. The turnaround only took 5 points, but it felt like a lot more…
