Crossed the border back into the good ole USA.  The Border Control Officer wanted to see our fruit after answering his question that we had some on board.  He boarded the Busse Bus and looked into the refrigerator and took our avocados!  I guess avocados are considered fruit.  No guacamole for us tonight!

We stayed at the Narrows Too Campground which is in Trenton, Maine just off the island from Bar Harbor (pronounced Baa-Ha-Ba up here).  At the campground we were met by our friends, KeithAnn and Dave Woods whom we met in Atlanta at NIRVC and again at Newmar in Nappanee, IN.

The four of us went to dinner at the Atlantic Brewing Company for BBQ.

It was nice to get some other food besides things from the ocean!  They were also selling interesting shirts and signage:

Early to bed as we talked KeithAnn into watching the sunrise on top of Cadillac Mountain.

Got up at 4:00am!  Yikes, certainly not used to rising early anymore.  Drove to the top and Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in time to catch these views:

Spectacular!  We weren’t the only ones to get the worm!  The top of the mountain was packed with people.

Definitely worth getting up early!  Even KeithAnn agreed.

We had plenty of time to go and get breakfast at Martha’s Diner:

Not worth getting up early for – at least the sunrise was!

Lounged around the rest of the day (a nap would have been good but didn’t happen).  Wash, dishes, Bear walks – nothing to write about.  For dinner we headed into Bar Harbor (caught this photo on the way)

and ate at the Reading Room at the Bar Harbor Inn with the Woods.

We got to sit on the patio and enjoyed the beautiful views, food and company.

The next day after saying “farewell and safe travels” to the Woods, Kat and I took Bear up to the Gorge Hike in Acadia:

Nice stone path / steps that led up, up and up.  Reaching the summit revealed this view:

We found some wild blueberries along the way:

Kat ate them by the handful, I ate them by the handful and Bear ate them from our handfuls – until we showed him where they were and then he ate them off the bush (although he preferred us to pick them for him – spoiled dog!).

We found an alternative path back down to our car that landed us near a beach.  A lot easier going on this path, mostly because it was downhill the whole way.

The Sand Beach was nice but no dogs allowed so we only could look at it while Bear was with us.

On the drive into Bar Harbor we stopped to take in the views along the coast:

We stopped at Thunder Hole – a natural constriction where the waves blow up into the air during low tide.  Unfortunately we were there during higher tide and didn’t get to see this in it’s glory:

We headed into Bar Harbor for a early dinner before heading back out to the Busse Bus.  We decided to try Testa’s because KeithAnn and Dave said it was good and that we should try the fried lobster.  Fried lobster?  I guess I’ll try it.

I thought that it was the best way to have lobster.  Lightly fried in a taco.  Double yum!

The next day we decided to tackle the biggest hike that we have ever attempted,  Precipice Trail.  Black diamond.  Mean.

Couldn’t take Bear as there are iron rungs and railings planted on the side of the cliff that you have to climb up.  After traversing the large boulder rock slide we had to sit down and really think about if we were really going to try it.

We decided to, just take it at our pace – slow!  Very scary!

We made it!  Check out these views from the top.

It’s awe inspiring to see the fog roll up the Mt. Desert Narrows and enveloping the islands.  So beautiful!

So we were so proud of ourselves for conquering this hike!  Then we met the Victoria and Josh McDougal and their family who made the climb behind us with two girls, ages 13 and 11, and two boys, ages 6 and 4!  Crazy!  After that, we weren’t as proud of our accomplishment.

Took an easier way down with the McDougal family and walked by this beautiful lake:

For a change of palette we decided to go out for Mexican food.  Sounded like a good idea before eating, afterwards, not so much!  I mean, who goes and eats Mexican food on the east coast?

We did stop for dessert and I espied this:

Lobster ice cream!  I tried it, but unlike Mikey, I didn’t like it.  Butter flavored ice cream with chunks of lobster.  I think that I’ve seen every thing possible to make with lobster now.

Off to bed because we were heading out to New Hampshire the next morning.
