After stopping at the Ark, we headed down to Lexington, KY to stay with, wait for it, a BeautiControl friend of Katrina’s.  Yolanda Davis and her husband Jerry allowed us to set up on their driveway.

It was a good thing that they had their trees trimmed prior to our arrival.

Yolanda took us out to lunch at the Blue Door BBQ – excellent food!

Then off to the Kentucky Horse Park.

All things horses here.  Events, history, statues, stories, and competition arenas.  Great way to spend the day, even if you’re not a horse person.  Located within the Kentucky Horse Park is the Marker’s Mark Secretariat horse re-purposing center.  This center takes race horses past their prime and finds a second career for them.   The best part was meeting with Carl Flower’s daughter, Catherine, who works there and she was able to show us around the place.

Kat was able to ride the mechanical horse – she won her race!  What a wonderful place!  Special thanks to Catherine for letting us have a little peak into your work life!

That night we met up with one of Kat’s college buddies, Joe, for dinner at Carson’s.  Nice place in the downtown area:

Outside of Carson’s there is a park that has statues of a horse race – very cool!

Joe was able to make it to the Busse Bus to check out how we were living on the road:

The next day Yolanda took us to an out-of-the-way diner on the way to visit a distillery on the bourbon trail.  The distillery that she chose was “Castle and Key” which was a new one that was being created from a century old distillery.

Amazing transformation!  Check it out:

They named it Castle & Key because, well, it looks like a castle.  The key is the natural spring that was shaped like a keyhole.  Since the water is the key – you get it!  Very beautiful grounds and the rehab is coming along:

I thought that the barrel warehouse was interesting:

There was a tasting at the end of the tour – only vodka and gin as the bourbon won’t be ready for another year or so.

The next day Kat and I headed over to take a tour at a horse farm.  The one that we chose was WinStar Farm because they owned the horse Justify.

Very fun to see beautiful racing horses and the grounds that they live one.  Probably better living conditions that 90% of Americans!

Jerry made it home from his business travels so that night we headed back to the Kentucky Horse Park to watch the Grand Prix after stopping at the “Jot ‘Em Down” grocery store for some yummy sandwiches:

Our dogs loved playing in Yolanda and Jerry’s backyard with their dogs:

Thank you Yolanda and Jerry for letting us camp in your driveway and for showing us your beautiful city!
