Kat found a unique option for us to “boondock” along our travels with Harvest Hosts.  Harvest Hosts are local wineries, farms, golf courses, museums and art studios that allow RV’ers to stay overnight in their parking lot or other facilities.  It costs $99.00 per year and each night is free.  The idea is that you will support the local host.

Kat booked us at the “Blend of Seven” winery outside of Columbus, OH for a night’s stay.  It was the perfect distance for us between two destinations (Indy 500 and Akron) so that I could keep to may now unofficial rule of driving less than 200 miles a day.

Anyway, we got all set up for the evening in their parking lot and took the dogs to a very beautiful and big dog park where Bear met some new friends and played until he was tired.  One of the new friends was a 10-year-old-ish boy who loved playing hide-and-seek with Bear.

For dinner, Kat and I went into the Blend of Seven and learned that the name came from the owner’s family of, wait for it, seven.  The daughter served us and the mother worked the kitchen.  We had a flight of Ohio red wines.  I’m not trying to be judgmental here, but after spending so much time in Napa and Paso my palette has developed.  The Ohio wines tasted like grape juice that “knew” somebody.  Think communion wine.  At least the food was pretty decent.

Very interesting way to camp for a night and will we definitely look for other Harvest Hosts opportunities in the future.
