Amarillo?  Many people that we have met along the way asked us why we were going to Amarillo.  Two reasons: Cadillac Ranch and Tracy Cortesi.

First Cadillac Ranch.  Cadillac Ranch is an art sculpture that was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels who half-buried ten classic Cadillacs in a field outside of Amarillo.  Over the years this sculpture has been painted with graffiti over and over again.  We were able to visit at sunset which really caught the neon spray paint wonderfully:

You could smell the fresh paint from today’s coat.  Pretty cool, eh?  So cool that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band wrote the song “Cadillac Ranch” about it.

Update:  I stand corrected by Rob Joy and was called out for spreading fake news.  Bruce Springsteen wrote and released it on “The River” in 1980, four years before the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  Thanks Rob for the fact checking!

Funny fact, Tracy who is from Amarillo had never actually visited the Cadillac Ranch.  Glad we could get her to see a local landmark.  The Cadillac Ranch is so cool that our campground, Oasis RV Resort, did this:

Copy “Cad’s”.

Second Tracy Cortesi and her boyfriend Chuck.  Tracy is another one of the BeautiControl gals who Kat met years ago and I have gotten to know over the years on trips.  Tracy now owns a very cute boutique, called Trendz, that Kat was able to browse the store and purchase some items.  Here is Tracy, Chuck and Trendz:

We had Tracy and Chuck joined us for drinks in the Busse Bus before heading over to Moondoggy’s for pizza and trivia night with some friends of theirs.  We came in late for trivia but quickly caught up and finished first!  Great minds I guess.  And yes, there were other teams playing.

The Oasis RV Resort was nice and I was able to capture this sunset by the Busse Bus:

So why Amarillo?  Easy, Cadillacs and Tracy….

Ed you are spreading fake news. “Cadillac Ranch” was written and released by Bruce Springsteen on “The River” in 1980. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band didn’t cover it until 1984. You got me earlier on your Red Red Wine trivia. I did not realize that was written by Neal Diamond. I figured it was UB40.
