Drove down the Kenai Peninsula and stayed at the KOA just north of Homer on the bluff with a fantastic view! Had to pull in instead of backing so that we could get the view. The fireweed is in bloom and makes for beautiful contrasting pictures. We learned that when the fireweed blooms that there are six more weeks until the snow flies. We gotta plan on heading south.
Homer is known for its’ spit.
The Homer spit is a jetty of land that extends out into the water. Kat and I headed down there to get some dinner and check it out. Our park host suggested to go to Captain Patties’s Fish, so we did. The place was fairly crowded but we got a high boy and turned around and sitting at the table behind us were a couple that we meet in St. Charles, MO and then again in Dawson’s Creek. This couple were the “tail gunners” on the Fantasy RV Tours that we didn’t make. Had a nice meal with them and learned more about caravans and tours. After dinner Kat and I remarked that we were glad that we did Alaska on our own, although a bit frightening, it gave us the freedom to explore on our own and also allowed us time to travel to Florida.
Kat and I decided to stop at the Salty Dawg Saloon for a night cap. What a very cool place:
The Salty Dawg is a lighthouse looking pub that is “wallpapered” in dollar bills that patrons leave notes on from all over the world. We had to join in! What else, we wrote “The Busse Bus 2018” on our bill. If you ever get to the spit, look us up.

As you are doing this cross America trip, because I would love do actually do this with my wife one day, do you feel it was great because of the Busse Bus? Or would a different alternative also work, something like a pull along camper that is pulled by a 4X4? Or would that be just too cumbersome? I am sure you see many others do what you are doing, what do others do?
