All set and ready to go. May 23rd.  Only one task left.  Class B non-CDL driver licenses for both Katrina and I.  We had to wait until Wednesday as the DMV was not open on Monday and we needed to get the car appraised for repair.  We also needed to out of Fish Lake Beach Campground at the latest by Friday, May 25th.

Got the Busse Bus packed up and ready to roll and got to the DMV around 9:30 – jeepless.  Who wants to take a written and on-the-road driving test towing another vehicle?  Not us.  Left both dogs in the Jeep – no passengers during driving tests.

Written driving tests can be hard, especially if there are questions on the test that pertain to obtaining a CDL license.  It does seem fair to include those on the non-CDL test.  Regardless, we both passed.

I took the on-the-road test first and asked the assessor if we both could go at the same time.  No.  The assessor kept saying, “this thing is so big” and not letting me know early enough when he wanted to make a turn.  Quickly maneuvering 18 tons is not logical nor possible, but I managed.  When I had the turn signal on it makes a loud beeping noise which might sound like a warning signal so the assessor asked me, “what’s that noise?” Like something was wrong.  This was the biggest vehicle he had ever been in or tested someone on.  He tried to have me go done a road that wasn’t rated over 5 tons – told him no that I couldn’t drive on that road.  Told me to make a turn and that it was OK to go over into the outer lane.  Novice.  I had to explain all the features of the coach to him like the navigation system and cameras to aid me in driving.  Also told him that we always would use a spotter when in tight situations.  Must of worked – I passed.

Pulling back into the DMV close to lunch hour was difficult as many more cars were in the parking lot.  I managed to get in front of the DMV and Katrina took over.  I went inside to get my license.  Seemed like it took forever since the instructor didn’t come in with me to tell me where to go.  When I came out of the building to check on the dogs, Katrina had just maneuvered the coach out of the parking lot.  She had it much rougher than I did, however I told the assessor that she was much more proficient at driving the rig than I was.  Seemed to have worked, she passed as well.  Yay!  We’re legal!

We drove down the street to hook up the Jeep and put the dogs in the rig.  Happened to be a Five Guys so we stopped for a burger before hitting the road.

First stop: St. Charles, MO
