We said goodbye to Yogi Bear and headed up north to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, often called the Yooper (U.P.). We stayed at the KOA in Munising which is close to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The KOA was their lowest class resort called Journey which is meant for a short stopover or stay, therefore not much happening there except for the pool filled with families and kids. The entire campground was in a forested area which meant that we couldn’t get our Starlink to work and we had to rely on cable TV and limited cell service. I know, the horrors of being in the woods attuned with nature.

Pictured Rocks

is best seen from the waters of Lake Superior so we took a tour from Riptide Ride.

Our captain was a bit cra cra and ensured that everyone got wet when he maneuvered the boat.

It was actually fun (good thing everyone was belted in), although a bit chilly. The boat ride took us around Grand Island

where we were able to capture these beautiful pictures:

We even got to see some bald eagles:

We got to see the old lighthouse:

Look at how clear the water of Lake Superior is:

We learned that Lake Superior is the largest, deepest and cleanest lake of the Great Lakes also known as HOMES (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior).

After the rip roaring boat ride we went into the town of Christmas for lunch at the Duck Pond.

A fun place although we ordered way too many fried foods!

From there we went and picked up Bear to see some waterfalls and rock formations. First up was Alger Falls situated right along the road:

Next was Wagner Falls:

Then onto Horseshoe Falls which was privately owned and charged us to get in. Good thing Katrina turned 60 this year as we got the senior discount!

They also had a botanical garden and a trout pond where Bear wanted to have a fish dinner:

From there we went into the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore where we got to use my Lifetime Senior National Park Pass (see it does pay to get older). We went to Munising Falls:

Then onto Miners Falls which was a little bit of a hike that Bear loved:

Finally we stopped at Miners Castle to see the rock formation. I originally thought we were going to see a man made castle, but no.

Since it was getting late we headed back to the Busse Bus for dinner. We planned on leaving early the next morning to get to Hearthside Grove, a beautiful Motorcoach Resort located in Petoskey, MI.
