When your birthday falls on a traveling day it passes without much fanfare. Good thing we had connectivity and we could receive phone calls from well wishers. Also, Facebook offers hearing from friends and family across the globe.

Here is a synapse of my day: We got up and drove for an hour and a half until we got to the Northfield area near downtown Denver because there was a Bass Pro Shop where we thought we could park for a few hours while we had lunch. Our son-in-law, Matt has been out in Denver for the past two months as he is in flight training with United Airlines. Matt happened to have the day off and could meet us. We decided on Torchy’s Tacos because it was close and because we love it!

Torchy’s Tacos never disappoints! Great tacos.

After saying our goodbyes to Matt (Bear was so excited to see Matt) we continued west. Traveling on a bus on I-70 through Denver isn’t the easiest task. We hit traffic and construction that slowed our progress. After traversing the expressway through the city we started our seven mile climb up into the Rocky Mountains. Very slow going when your rig weighs 22 tons and you are towing a full size truck. Uphill at 35 mph with the flashers going. The worst is when you inch up on a semi truck going slower and have to hit the brakes. Kills any momentum that you have going.

Once we completed the initial climb and got off of I-70 we had to face another climb with extreme switchbacks. Again very slow going, at least there were less cars on this road. We finally reached the top of Berthoud Pass which is over 11,000 feet in altitude. A far cry from the 7.5 feet above sea level that we experience at Myakka. Back down the other side until we reached Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountains campground. It used to be called River Run and our gps needed that name in order to correctly navigate us to the entrance.

It was raining when we arrived and had to get set up wet with high winds blowing. I must be a real Floridian now because I was freezing in the 43 degree temperatures. We relaxed in the coach and ate some leftovers. After dinner we decided to go up to the clubhouse to listen to the live music and sit at the bar. Once we got there and realized that the guy singing wasn’t very good and the bar area was filled with families we decided to head back to the Busse Bus. We watched some TV and headed to bed. Not an exciting birthday, but that’s life on the road sometimes.
