On the drive down we had Kristin sit the passenger seat to get the full feeling of the RV life.  She particularly enjoyed going over the bridges…

We stayed at Boyd’s Campground on Stock Island just off of Key West.  Nice facility:

Apparently roosters and hens are a “protected” animals in the keys.  Their ancestors fought in the cock fights back in the day when that was a thing – think Hemingway days.  It drove Bear crazy!  The roosters cock-a-doodle-do all day and night long.  Apparently they weren’t trained like other roosters that only crow in the morning.  Annoying!

Walked over to get a drink at the “Salty Oyster Dockside Bar & Grill”, before dinner at a

Cuban restaurant called “El Siboney” (another restaurant from the now-famous Road Food book).

When we went inside the place had a few patrons and we got a table.  We waited for awhile and no one came over to serve us drinks so Rob and I went to the bar and the bartender stated that we should come over to the bar for better service.  We did and got it.  About 1/2 hour later we turned around and saw that the place was now packed with people.  I got the garlic butter shrimp – mistake (I cannot trust this foodie book).

So, what do we do?  The next morning we head over to “The Blue Heaven” another spot highlighted in the book.  Thank goodness it was fantastic – I’ll keep trying the books’ recommendations now.

Mimosas of all flavors, bloody Mary’s, excellent breakfast and a guy playing guitar and singing halfway decently.  Guess what else they have?

That’s right, chickens all over the outside dining area.  Fun place that I highly recommend!

After a very enjoyable brunch, we headed up Duval Street to check out the scene.  Duval is THE street in Key West that has all the bars, restaurants, art galleries, and shops.  Nice stroll with the following sights:

Needless to say, we had a good walk up and down Duval.  Headed back to where we parked the car and realized that we were about 1,000 steps from the most famous sign in Key West:

Where’s Kristin, you ask?  At the car – her feet were sooooooo tired that she couldn’t walk all the way over to the marker.  Really?  1,000 feet?  Really?

Believe me, we all gave her grief.

At least I did, once…

We headed out to another “Road Food” book suggestion since the Blue Heaven turned out well, called Louie’s Backyard for dinner.   We arrived very early and sat outside in the bar on the deck overlooking the blue water.  Interesting:

1. The dog beach was right next door and Kat went over to talk to a guy there with his dog.

Very small beach that wasn’t even worth bringing Bear to.

2. Had a wonderful time drinking with the Joy’s:

You can see that we where there for so long that the sunset.

3.  Our server on the deck was so far from being customer friendly that we spoke to the manager after dinner.  She lost at least three customers for the restaurant so I thought that the manager should know.  Nothing happened, he didn’t even seem to care.

4.  The meal was fantastic!

The Road Food book was right on!  Batting 500 now!

The following day we decided to snorkel and signed up with Fury Adventures!  Great day out on the boat:

Had a great time seeing the coral and pretty fishes.  Not sure what Rob was looking at – perhaps just pondering life a bit.  Just an enjoyable boat ride on the Gulf of Mexico, or perhaps it was the Atlantic Ocean – not sure which side of the island we where on.

Stopped for drinks afterwards and had a:

The next day we searched for a beach at Fort  Zachary Taylor but found the sandy area very small and filled with sea grass.  Yucky!  We did however get a chance to explore the old fort:

The fort has protected the United States for many decades and throughout many conflicts.  Read the sign post above.  Today, it defends us from these:

Godzilla-sized iguanas!

That night we had a scheduled sunset cruise with a band (Jimmy Buffet style) with Fury.  Outstanding boat ride and sunsets:

Nice hat, Rob!

Rob also found his next boat purchase for Whitewater:

Afterwards, we headed back to Duvall Street and saw this along the way:

Rob wanted to search all the shops to see if he could find the outfit!

Off to dinner at Sloppy Joe’s.  Food was ok, band was really good, new friends were fun and Rob sweated up the dance floor.

Parting is always such sweet sorry, but Kristin and Rob had to travel back to reality up north.  But, before they left we were able to grab breakfast at The Breakfast Club Too:

Interesting decor on the inside.  Rob ordered the 14 pound breakfast burrito.  I can’t remember if he ate the whole thing – won’t want to be in the seat next to him on the flight home.

After dropping the Joy’s off at the airport and saying our goodbyes, Kat and I headed back to Boyd’s for a little relaxation:

Needed the rest prior to the next couple coming tomorrow.
