We worked our way up the gulf coast of Texas to stay in Galveston at the Stella Mare RV Resort.  Very nice resort although it had a very funny shaped dog park – triangular?

I think was very close to the gulf (across the street).  Hard to tell because throughout our duration it was overcast and extremely foggy.  It reminded me of the “fog bowl” back in 1988 when the Chicago Bears played the Philadelphia Eagles.

We had a first here.  Watching the Super Bowl in a campground!  Stella Mare provided BBQ and all those who signed up brought sides.

Very cool until their computer rebooted and everyone left to get back into their units to watch the end.

We headed out to have dinner at Galvez Bar & Grill located down the street towards downtown Galveston.  Had a bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp appetizer which was delicious!  Interestingly enough, we will find this appetizer at almost every restaurant in Galveston- had to try them all!  We liked the ones at the Shark Shack the best on the following evening.

The Shark Shack is located in downtown Galveston in the Strand area.  I had a hankering for burgers so we tried this place, but instead I got the Restaurant Week special of blackened salmon on orzo with soup and dessert.  Get deal, but not a burger.  The Strand is a very cool area akin to Bealy street in Memphis, or Bourbon street in New Orleans, or even Rush street in Chicago back in the day!  Although not nearly as big, it was still lined with restaurants and bars playing music.  A nice store that we visited was La King’s Confectionery for some candy – they have old-fashion taffy pulls twice a day!

They were starting to decorate for Mardi Gras, and yes, Galveston celebrates Mardi Gras as well as New Orleans does.  Lights adorned the edges of the buildings in traditional  Mardi Gras colors of green, gold and my favorite, purple.

When it’s foggy and miserable there isn’t much to do during the day, but we were able to hit the hot tub!  I mean, if you are wet from the weather, why not completely immerse yourself completely in hot water.  We met a nice Texan family doing the same.  They were down for the weekend.  The son was a junior in high school who was the starting quarterback of the football team.  We learned all about how Texans love their football.  Crazy!

Since it was still bad weather, we did what most sane females do, we went and got a pedicure:

Nice place on the inside and they even served us a glass of wine!

Still with the hankering for a burger, the next night we headed out to “The Spot”.  Got a burger – should have waited until we found a better place.  Ok, but not great.

Decided to cook out ourselves the next night.  Made sausages, steak, grilled onions and zucchini.  Delicious!

We went to the Houston RV Show.  Why you ask?  I guess because we have a RV.  Not many big rigs there, mostly 5th wheelers.  I guess that’s to be expected when you are in Texas!  All the pick em up’s around the place, just easier to haul a trailer.

Although we got to see this beauty!  Sleeps four comfortably so the salesman said.  Not sure about that, I’ll keep the Busse Bus!

Another thing that I was able to get accomplished was to install a lighting system in the spice pantry.  Now I can tell the difference between the salt and pepper shakers!

On our final night in Galveston, Keenan was able to come down and visit with us after work.  It’s nice to have him visits especially when he is so close.  Keenan has been in the Houston area for about 1.5 years now and he has always stated that Galveston wasn’t a great place because he was told that.  Now that we have visited, I can’t dispute him.  It may be a great area with a very nice beach, but we weren’t able to see it because of the weather.  We will have to come back in during a different time of the year and check it out with nicer weather!
