We yearned for “civilation” so over the next three days we booked our way back down through Canada and into Vancouver.  Lots of miles – 10 to 12 hour days on the road, but we did get a chance to stop and smell the roses along the way.

Left Skagway and did the 11 miles grade 6% hike up to the top of the pass and final Canadian customs.  Averaged just under 4 mpg during the climb – burn that diesel up.  500+ miles later we arrived back at Watson Lake, YT and we stayed at a different RV Park called Downtown.  In talking with the owner, I found out that the Alaskan Highway south of there had been closed for three days due to wildfires and that a lot of the current campers in the park were stranded there.  Good thing we are heading down 97 to Vancouver and not taking the ALCAN.

Headed down to Smithers, BC to the Glacier View RV Park.  Another long day on the road (500- miles) but we were able to see our last glacier and the campground had a very nice area to let the dogs run.

Notice the residual smoke in the landscape pictures.  With the dogs exhausted and the parents exhausted, we headed for bed.  Early to bed early to rise – and we have another marathon day tomorrow.

Off to Lac La Hache, BC only a little less than 500 miles away.  Drove, let the dogs out, drove, ate, let the dogs out, drove, set up camp at Big Country and grabbed a quick meal down the street.  Off to bed again for the final push down to Vancouver.

Another day, another few hundred miles.  We stopped at Hell’s Gate along the way and hiked down the embankment to the river and restaurant across the bridge.  Great place:

Our dogs crossed the grated bridge without too much fear as you could see all the way down to the river.  Once we got across there was another dog who was too scared to traverse the bridge.  Kat had our dogs show their dog how to do it and that it was ok.  After seeing our dogs their dog crossed.

Arrived on the east side of Vancouver and stayed at Fort Camping.  The final 50 miles we hit a lot of traffic and wondered to ourselves, “Why the hell did we want to get back to civilization?”.
