We took our sweet time in leaving St. Joseph’s KOA as we only had a short drive to the Hockstra’s and both Wendy and Roger were busy in the morning. We got up to their place and parked the Busse Bus II on their driveway across the street from their house at their barn. A spot that we knew all too well as we had spent so much time there last year. It’s kinda our home away from home away from home! Since we had been there so much last year we didn’t take too many pictures. Here is the Busse Bus II settled in:
We did get there with enough time to give our very dirty truck a nice bath! That evening, the four of us headed over to the Royal Grille at the Royal Golf Course at Canadian Lakes. We had a nice meal and got to sit at the windows overlooking the 18th hole. We had to stop at Kings for some delicious ice cream. Standard stop with the Hockstra’s.
I needed to get a few things done on the truck and on the coach, so the next morning Roger and I headed over to O’Reilly’s to buy a new battery for the truck and some headlights for the coach. I really can’t believe that I needed two new headlights on the coach that isn’t even two years old yet. O’Reilly’s was nice enough to replace the truck battery while we waited and once we got home Roger and I (mostly Roger) tackled the headlights. We got them both replaced fairly quickly so I asked Roger to help me adjust the mirrors.
It’s really nice having a friend with the tools and knowhow on these types of things! Thank you Roger!
In the afternoon we went for a pontoon ride on Blue Lake, Round Lake and Lake Mecosta. It is great that they can transverse onto other lakes! Bear loved the ride!
For dinner we went to the Clifford Lake Inn on Clifford Lake. The place is great and it’s so nice to sit outside by the lake and listen to the singer.
While we were eating, a woman came up to Katrina and asked her if she wanted to ride horses. Apparently, decades ago Katrina had sold her horse, Okie, to Kris DeMull. What a small world! After dinner we had a quick tour of the Bridal Suite, a room upstairs that they turned into a speakeasy.
Unfortunately it wasn’t open because it was too warm and they didn’t have air conditioning. Looked like it might be fun and they specialized in bourbon! Perhaps next time.
The next day we took a bike ride on the White Pine trail. Our destination was Big Rapids to grab lunch and we decided on the Gypsy Nickel Lounge on the Muskegon River. Roger and Wendy had not been there before so it was fun to try a new place. We enjoy it very much!
That night we had reservation at the Forager in Howard City. An excellent place! Howard City was having Harvest Days so as an added bonus we got to see people learning to line dance in the street. About a block away they had a beer tent with a small band playing. We didn’t stay very long, but it was an unexpected bonus!
As all good things must come to an end, so did our time with the Hockstra’s. The good news is that we will see them again in Florida in about one month. Thank you for your hospitality!
