We drove down from Bryce Canyon to stay near Lake Powell at the Wahweap RV & Campground In Wahweap, AZ. A very nice campground right on the lake, well, sort of. With the lake being down about 100 feet, the campground was a bit farther away when we stayed there.
Still, a great place to call home for a few days.
We drove over to the iconic Horseshoe Bend Overlook to see how the Colorado River carved a path through the desert so many years ago:
On the drive back to the campground we stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam Overlook:
Check this out:
Real dinosaur tracks, not like the fake ones from Jurassic Park!
The following day, Marly and Neil Mattson (BeautiControl gal and her husband) met us at the campground. We rented kayaks (Katrina’s first time trying them) and paddled across the lake from the Wahweap Marina. We were allowed to beach the kayaks and walk around the somewhat sandy/muddy shore.
We had a wonderful time and even Katrina liked the experience!
Bear loved playing in the lake:
He is such a water dog!
Marly made us a yummy spaghetti dinner.
The following morning we hiked to the Hanging Garden near Page. We ended the hike at a cave that had ferns growing on the back wall and off the ceiling.
Around the cave was a path that led upwards to a rock outcropping that Keenan, Katrina, Bear and I climbed – great views:
On our last day in the area, we got up early to hike up to the Skylight Arch Trail. We had to drive about six miles on a gravel “road” to get to the trailhead. Well worth the drive:
After packing up quickly, we headed down to see one of the Natural Wonders of the World.
