On the drive down to Sioux Falls Katrina captured the state welcoming sign:
Great picture!
We stayed at the Tower campground for only one night due to the high winds that we encountered the previous day. They put us near the front because we wanted a pull through site with good WiFi.
It was interesting to me that there were a lot of very small casinos around. They looked like they weren’t making money, unlike in Vegas.
Curious of why the city got it’s namesake, we headed down to Falls Park in the downtown area. Here’s why:
The Big Sioux River flows through the city and there are rapids/falls. Sioux Falls.
Bear walked by a “rock” which we let him sniff until it moved. He wasn’t sure what to think about it!
The river was dammed upstream with a man made channel created to power an electrical plant and a huge mill:
What a cool area! Very interesting!
We asked the two people that we know with Sioux Falls knowledge of where to go for dinner. My sister, Janis, who graduated from Augustana University and Sheila Osborne who grew up in the area both suggested Minerva’s downtown. With two thumbs up, we went:
The food was really good! The menu was limited due to COVID-19 rules, but still a great place! I did learn that Janis was a hostess there back in her years in the city.
Along the street that Minerva’s is located there was a Sculpture Walk. Various artists displaying their art:
This one was so realistic that Katrina had to get a picture:
We saw this sign:
Makes one think!
On the way back to the Tower Campground, we stopped for dessert:
Great ice cream!
With the South Dakota sticker firmly attached to our map, we were ready to drive down to Sioux City, IA and collect that one!

Thank you Russ! We are really enjoying exploring our country over the past two years and looking forward to the next one. We can feel the country changing during every stop we make now. Sad.
