Stayed at the Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground. Caverns closed due to Corona. It’s certainly a family place with a lot to do for the children. One thing was gem-panning, like panning for gold. There’s gems in those mountains! Another activity was a four wheeled drive park – 4×4 vehicles everywhere. They even had a swing bridge:
Bear ran across it – no problem. However, on the way back I jumped up and down and the bridge started swaying and Bear couldn’t wait to get off! They also had a Bark Park that had a water feature where there was a “step on” control to shoot a water spout into the air. Taught Bear how to use it.
He LOVED it! He is such a smart dog!
We learned that Chattanooga is nicknamed Nooga. Never knew that. Like NOLA – I knew that one! Saw a great looking building along the drive:
What a slice of Americana!
We celebrated the Kentucky Derby because we were supposed to be there but due to Corona it was pushed back until September. Did a Zoom call with the kids (they were supposed to be the too):
All dressed up and nowhere to go! What a good looking family! We did make a nice charcuterie board and drink some mint juleps:
Although we are not sure if we can make it to the Derby in September yet.
Went to see some of the local sites:
See Rock City – no, not open:
Went to Lookout Mountain – parks not open.
Walked around the outside of Ruby Falls:
Went on hikes – local one on Raccoon Mountain right out the gate of the campground. The other one on Lookout Mountain.
Nice falls and creeks that Bear could play in. He absolutely loves the water.
We went to look at property at Jasper Highlands. Beautiful views off the Cumberland plateau!
Found a nice lot (2.27 acres with bluff view and pond) where you could build a house and two other buildings.
That is the view from the lot. Perhaps we could build an RV garage. Not sure if we want to pull the tigger or not. Because we viewed the property, Jasper Highlands provided a nice dinner for us:
Actually got to go to a restaurant! So excited!
Top of the Rocks Restaurant had excellent food! It was also a brewery, so good beer as well. What a view!

You and Katrina are living my dream…now I can live vicariously through you! I love the Smokey Mountains. I grew up vacationing with my adventurous parents and 3 siblings in a pop-up camper. Come see me if ya’ll are ever in the Dallas area.
