On the drive down from New York City, we stopped outside of the Philadelphia airport to pick up Keenan who was going to visit us for the next week. There is no way to drive the Busse Bus through an airport, especially dragging the Jeep behind. We found an exit that we thought that we could maneuver in and let Keenan know that he would have to Uber/Lift out to us. Worked perfectly and Keenan arrived earlier than us and was able to pick up lunch at the local Wendy’s. Love that spicy chicken!
We continued on our way down to Delaware to stay at Massey’s Landing in Long Neck. What an outstanding place! On the water! Pool with swim up bar! Restaurant! We will come back to this place!
Nice beach where Bear could play – just needed to heed the current:
Our site was nice as well, even at sunset.
The best part was that it was located just down the street from the Fluharty’s.
The first night Kevin and Kathleen (a.k.a. Flounder and Shakes) took us to the Brick Works located in Millsboro.
A nice place made better with great friends. We watched the first half of the Chicago Bears game and then finished watching back at the Fluharty’s house. Looks like the Bears are in for a longer season that anticipated.
The next day we hunkered down due to Hurricane Dorian. We just got the remnants of the storm – rain and wind. But when you’re in a mobile home it’s a little scary. We ventured out for dinner down at Dewey Beach. Still windy and stormy:
Headed over to Starboard’s to get a crush or two. I’m not sure what’s in a crush besides yummy goodness.
Huge bar! 20’s-something crowd so we decided to eat elsewhere. Across the street is Woody’s, home of the World’s best crab cakes.
They really have great crab cakes! I’m not sure if they are the world’s best because I haven’t tried all the crab cakes in the world – but these are really good.
Topped off the night at Dewey Beer Co. Guess what we had? Right, beer.
The following day Kevin took us out to the beach to an area that you can drive on if you are fishing and have a license. Kevin checked both parts. Kevin needed to take air out of the tires in his truck in order to drive on the sand.
Kevin and Bear enjoyed the fishing…
Kevin even caught a
baby black tip shark! Nice relaxing day at the beach taking in the views, soaking up the sun and play horseshoes.
For dinner we went to Bethany Blues for Bar-B-Que. The best thing that we had were Pigs on the Wing. Smoked and BBQ’s St. Louis Style ribs cut and tossed in a buffalo sauce. Outstanding!
We decided to spend the next day by the pool. Started the morning with eye-openers:
Then played some games at the Busse Bus.
I’m glad I wasn’t playing craps with Kevin as he couldn’t roll the dice for anything that day! Then we headed over to the pool:
And sat at the swim up bar. First time we have seen a swim up bar at a campground! We used the Traeger and smoked some ribs and fish all afternoon. Good eats!
Caught a great sunset:
After dinner we headed over to a happening place on the water called Paradise Grill. They bring in palm trees every year to make it feel like you are in the Caribbean. Since it was late on Sunday evening and after season, it wasn’t that busy – but we were able to get the vibe. This would be a great place in season – looks like loads of fun! The place had some great signs:
The following day we headed out to Dogfish Head Brewery.
We took the tour:
Now I know how to brew beer! Along with the free tour, there was a free tasting:
Great tasting beer and other spirits!
We headed into downtown Lewes for dinner and saw this building:
Apparently, during the War of 1812 (actually lasted longer than a year) the British blocked the port of Lewes for almost two years. US Army Regulars and Militia camped in and around the town expecting the British to attack as their supplies ran low. On April 6th and 7th of 1813 the British bombarded Lewes, but never came ashore. In the Cannonball House you can still see one of the cannonballs stuck in the brickwork. Pretty cool, eh?
Lewes waterfront:
We ate at Agave Mexican – outstanding different types of guacamole!
After a nice dinner we headed back to the Fluharty’s house for a fire and I caught these views from there deck:
Last of the sun setting and the rise of the moon. Gorgeous! What a nice place to live.
Took the final picture of Kevin and Kathleen back at the Busse Bus:
Thank you Shakes and Flounder for putting up with us and showing us your home and hometown!
We were off to our nation’s capitol the next day.

Ed, The beard is getting impressive. However, why is Flounder’s beard so much darker than yours’?

Thanks, I lost my shaver since Ari’s wedding! Flounder is younger! Also, I have more hair on my head than he does
