I named this post Cape Todd because of our friend Todd Koesters, who was married to Lynn Joy, passed away a few years ago. At his celebration of life, I had the first inkling of buying a RV and traveling the country. Todd had been coming to Cape Cod his entire life and when Lynn and him got married he started to bring her out here as well. After they had children they continued the tradition. We couldn’t think of a better way to see Cape Cod than having Lynn join us.
After getting set up in our new campground called Atlantic Oaks in Eastham,
we walked down the bike path and had a late lunch at Arnolds. Lynn said the I had to have the fishwich and chowder. Which I did. I’m glad I listened to her, they both were great!
Fun place and Bear was allowed to sit outside with us!
Lynn then took us to the beach where they usually rent a house for the two weeks that they are here. Beautiful area:
She showed us where the Pilgrims first met the Native Americans (wrongly called Indians I might add) called First Encounter Beach.
Back to the Busse Bus for dinner and to watch some of the US Open. Had a nice campfire while Bear waited patiently for Lynn to exit the rig with ice cubes!
It’s now about 11:00 pm and Lynn has to show us the stars. Like we have never seen stars before? We drove over to the Nauset Light parking lot and viewed the stars. I’ve never ever seen so many. We could even see the Milky Way just as plain as day (I mean night). Kat has the stargazing application on her phone which shows you the stars, names them, shows the Greek (I think Greek) Mythology figures, planets and our own man-made satellites. Really cool to look at without light pollution around you!
The next day Lynn rented a bike and we were off down the Cape Cod Rail Trail (CCRT).
Stopped at Coastguard Beach,
(I’m not swimming here):
climbed Doane Rock,
and rode all the way down to Nickerson State Park.
Pedaled like crazy to get back home because we were headed out for dinner at the Beachcomber, which is the only restaurant on the Atlantic Ocean and was grandfathered in when the laws were changed back in the day.
What an outstanding view! Can I add, what a good looking couple?
The next morning we took Bear for a hike and swim at Wiley Park.
Bear enjoyed the swim and we enjoyed the hike. He’s getting to be such a good swimmer – funny because our other Aussies didn’t like the water, not Bear, he loves to get wet.
Drove to Chatham to see the Chatham Bars Inn:
And the light and the water:
Read about the Mayflower and got to see a pictorial of Cape Cod – it makes a “flexed” arm.
We stopped for drinks at the Red Nun. The rain started and poured so we had to stay for another round and grabbed some appetizers.
When the rain stopped, we ate dinner at the Chatham Squire and tried the chowder. Excellent! I liked it better than Arnolds.
August 29th – Happy 32nd Anniversary, Babe! We went to see the light at Highland Links:
Walked up to the top on the tour and we were able to see the golf course and surrounding area. Nice view:
Continued our journey to the top of the arm – Provincetown. It reminded me of Key West:
Had a wonderful Italian dinner at Ciro & Sal’s. The restaurant is located in the basement of an old building and you can still see the wooden timber structure:
Walked around Provincetown a little at night:
Time to head back to the Busse Bus and relax a bit before retiring for the evening.
The next morning we were off to New York City and on the way we dropped Lynn off on the side of the highway so that she could catch a train back into Boston and a flight home. We really enjoyed having Lynn spend a week with us, showing us her home away from home in Cape Cod. She really earned her wings:
