Our last night in Palatine, IL wasn’t that good of a night for Sydney. She definitely wasn’t feeling good and had diarrhea all night long. We were up a couple of times to clean it up. We decided to head up to northern Wisconsin to our friends lake house. On the way up Sydney continued to not be herself. Our first night up north, was worse then the previous one with Sydney throwing up and having diarrhea. Terrible mess in the Busse Bus I can tell you!
Since it was the Fourth of July and no animal hospitals were open. Kathy called a vet that she knows who was willing to meet us at her place of business – about 45 minutes away. So, all four of us climbed into the jeep and headed out. I think that both Kat and I knew what was going to happen – even Bear wasn’t being himself, way too needy.
When we got to the vet, she weighed Sydney who had lost five pounds in the last seven days – not a good sign. The vet said that she could run a lot of expensive tests, but at her age and with these symptoms, the results won’t be good. We agreed with her assessment. We decided to put her down and ease her suffering.
Here’s some pictures of Sydney throughout the years:

And my favorite:
We had Sydney for over 14 years after getting her at six months old. She had been a terrific dog and we treasured the time we had with her. It’s amazing to me how much a pet becomes part of your family and how much you miss them when they are gone.
I’m sure that she is playing with Melbourne (also pictured above) running around and catching frisbees in doggie heaven and having a grand time!

Thanks. It’s tough, especially in the Busse Bus where we are living in such close quarters.

I just read this entry and am so sorry. Sydney was such a great dog and she had a beautiful life with you! You gave her some great adventures in the last year of her life! I am sure her and Melbourne are having a great time in doggie heaven! 🙂

Thank Janet. We’ve been without connectivity for a few days up here in eastern Canadien coast. It was certainly sad.
