Left some of Kat’s family in Evansville to meet up with her brother Bret in Indianapolis for the Indy 500 race. Katrina’s dad purchased four tickets about 30 years ago and now Bret has taken them over, he has upped them to eight tickets and over the years he has been able to get the tickets closer and closer to the finish line. They are outstanding tickets now!
We stayed at the Raceview Family Campground which is only opened four times a year for major events, like the Indy 500. We had invited our new friends from Ohio, Scott and Anne Moore, who we met while attending Mardi Gras.
Seems like we are hitting major events with them around the country and we plan on going to the Kentucky Derby with them next year. Raceview only offers electricity, so we had to plan accordingly. We were able to buddy sites with the Moore’s:
It’s very nice being side-by-side with our doors facing each other. We booked through Tuesday in case rain postponed the race by one day. We were very lucky that the rain held off during the race which allowed us additional down time with the Moores.
Off to the races. The four of us met up with Bret and Rich Demirjian (both from Decatur, IL) at a dental school friend of Bret’s, Tim and Jeanene Williams, house in Avon. Stocked up the coolers and headed to reserved parking at Allison Transmission headquarters.
I felt good parking there as we have an Allison transmission in the Busse Bus.
Got all settled into our seats and we were there in time to take in a few sights:
And Simon Pagenaud won the race! Not the name I drew in the random drawing, but one that the first-timer drew – Scott Moore. I doubt that Bret will let him come to another race!
The next day we were able to take both of our dogs over to a hiking trail and get them some exercise (and us as well).
The paths were a bit muddy in areas, but we figured out ways to get around and avoid altogether. The hike must have worked as we were all tired:
Scott and Anne had to leave early and when they were pulling out they got stuck in the mud with their rig. With a little shoveling of gravel under their tires we were able to get him out and they were on their way back to Ohio and real life.
Before Kat and I left, Jeanene was able to stop by and see the Busse Bus:
Since we left on Tuesday we were almost the last rig to pull out of the place. It’s a little lonely being the last, but we were happy to get moving again and onto our next phase of adventures.
One is the loneliest number …..

Quite an adventure when you don’t even bother to note that you saw Matt Damon. Yay, I’m behind on your blog, but I’m in the process of catching up. Always entertaining.
