According to the Alaska Highway 2018 book that we purchased, the Liard Hot Springs is a must stop during your travels up/down the highway. We were not disappointed! Walked along the boardwalk through the woods with an eye out for bear until we reached the soaking area. I guess that the upper pool has been closed since a couple was mauled by a bear back in the 1990’s.
The hanging gardens are located 54 steps above the pool and are beautiful to see all the unique vegetation. There are 14 variety of orchids that grow in the vicinity.
We stayed at a campground across the Alaskan call Liard Hot Springs Lodge Campground which is owned by the local Indian Nation (sorry, I didn’t get the name). We were able to have a nice campfire and Bear found a nice “stick” to play with:
The sign stated “unforgettable”, I would say forget it and book across the street. Only 30 amps and no sewer hookup. We had to hold it in the dark.
