Newmars everywhere you look!  Coming into Gillette, WY to attend the Newmar Rally.  424 big rigs.

What’s a RV Rally, you ask?  It’s where people of similar interests get together to compare notes, attend seminars, meet people, learn and have some fun.  Within the Newmar family of owners there are local chapters that you can belong to meet people and have smaller rallies.  The largest chapter at Newmar is “Full Timers”, so we joined.  There were 122 full timers in attendance.  I guess we aren’t the only nutty ones with this notion, and certainly not the first.  We learned a lot from them and also about the Busse Bus.  Things like there is a lock button near the door that locks the cabin and the garage doors at the same time – no more carrying the fob.

I won’t bore you with the insightful items like inverters, automatic battery fill ups, black water tank enzymes, oasis generators, and the like that I learned about by sitting through classes.  Katrina stayed in the rig and worked all day, everyday.  Too much for me to remember on my own.

We did however get weighed.  Interesting as they weigh each axle and weight disbursement.  Remember that I lost 15 pounds getting ready for this endeavor?  Well, the Busse Bus weighs 44,450 pounds.  That’s 22 tons!  Without the jeep.  We would put the Busse Bus on a diet, but she is rated for 49,000 lbs.  Great – Katrina can buy more things!

Besides all the learning, the rally offered breakfasts, dinners, shows and tours.  More about the tours in future posts.  We listened to a lot of western (not country) bands and comic.  He was very good.

Made up a song on the spot about being a “Newmar Man”.  Guess I am.

Best part about the rally was meeting new friends to share travel stories and keep in touch with on the road.

I toasted these people with:

”Here’s to new friends, may we become good friends until we’re old and senile.  And then we can become new friends again!”

Thanks for the memories: Steve and Laurie Chubb – excellent dog walkers who saved Bear’s life from a rattlesnake, Frank and Mary Busalacchi and Larry and Jeanne Bateman.
