When you camp at 9,000 feet altitude and you’re accustomed to Chicago at 600 you may feel light headed and nauseous – kinda like the next morning after you’d had one too many. They sell oxygen here in all different aromas.
Haven’t felt the need to try one yet. Although it’s also touted as a hangover cure – better pick up a can because we have visitors coming in a couple of days!
First Kampground of America (KOA) called Denver West / Central City and it’s about 50 miles due west of Denver up the mountain near ski resorts. Nice place. I asked if all KOA’s were like this and I was told that there are three levels of KOAs and that this one was in the middle.
Nice enough so I purchased the annual membership for KOA. 30 bucks. Gives you 10% discount so I figured we would recoup the costs over the next year of full time RVing.
Central City is an old gold mining town that in its’ heyday (1880’s) was a candidate for the capital of Colorado. When the gold ran out in abundance the town started to decline. To rejuvenate towns like this, Colorado has allowed casinos to boost the economy with the caveat to restore them to their former glory.
The mounds that you see in the pictures are gold mines. Today most mines are drilled straight down leaving a mound of stone debris. Not only do you need to take heed when taking a hike here from the rattlers and bears you also have to watch your step so you don’t break your leg in one of these abandoned mines.
I keep looking at the ground for gold. If you don’t continue to see posts, then I either fell down a mine or struck it rich!
Katrina and I snapped a beautiful sunset over the Rockies on our way to dinner. Thought I’d share. When we stopped to take the picture I also took one of this sign.
I’m not sure what Colorado means by this sign. Katrina says that they don’t allow surfing on mountain roads. I think they don’t allow hula hooping. What do you think?

Been a bit busy. Will update shortly. We are currently in Gillette, WY at the Newmar Rally. I’m attending seminars to learn more about the
Busse Bus.
