Absolutely beautiful park aptly named for the rock formations which have been “erected” through plate tectonics some 70 million years ago from an ocean bed that’s 200 million years old.  The sandstone has eroded over the millennia leaving breath taking views.  The 480 acre park was purchased in 1879 by Charles Elliot Perkins for $22.00 / acre and donated in 1909 by his children to be used for future generations with the caveat that nothing can be built on the property and it will always remain free to the public.  Thank you to the children of Perkins for fulfilling his dream to make this wonderful land public and free.

We only took Canberra with us as we thought the hiking might be too strenuous for Sydney.  We were mistaken, Sydney would have been just fine.  We did learn that Canberra is not a pure bred Australian Shepherd like we thought.  He must have some billy goat in him as he climbed every rock in sight.

Beautiful pictures. Take a picture of the camp sites too. Curious what that’s like at these destinations.

Miss you too. Rob just sent pic from Libertyville Days with Ari. I’m missing that weekend and Modern Day Romeos.
