Once we decided on which of our belongings to keep for the longer term we needed a storage unit with the right size and cost.  Until you get everything together it is very hard to determine the exact size of storage unit you will need.  You will also need one that is close to your house because you will be making multiple trips – double that if you are also moving your oldest out of the house at the same time.  Needless to say, the local U-Haul outlet knew me by name and worst than that they knew my credit card number by heart.

Our perfect solution arrived when our niece, Jeanette and Nephew, Danny came to our rescue by offering to store our stuff in their attic.  The attic is nice and big and it is a walk-in so no climbing up a ladder like you might think.  We made at least five trips to their attic constantly added more to our pile.  Definitely more than Jeanette and Danny bargained for.  We are in their debt – Thank you both!

Besides the commodities we left in the attic we also had to find someone that could care for our plants without killing them.  Our daughter, Ariana, is plant sitting the Christmas cactus that I got from my mother, Ruth and she got from my great aunt, Christine.  The plant must be close to 100 years old.  It’s big and beautiful.  As for our other plants, our sister-in-law Shirley is providing excellent care – probably better than we care for them then we would provide ourselves.
