We decided to take the backroads (US-50) to our next destination, Dodge City. How many westerns did you see as a kid that had something to do with Dodge City?

And Boot Hill Cemetery? I was excited to go and maybe get into a gunfight or punch some doggies.

Well it wasn’t anything that I expected! Paved streets, the cemetery long gone, no cattle rashers, no spurs, just commercial visitor stuff.

We stayed at the KOA and got ourselves settled in for the night.

There was enough daylight left for us to explore the “downtown” area.

The area had rolled in the non-wooden sidewalks already! Dead! I guess we were a little late in the season. We did make our way to Boot Hill. The cemetery was moved in the 1880’s and a Sheriff’s Office replaced it.

Complete with monuments outside.

The Sheriff’s (Marshal’s) Office has since been replaced with the Boot Hill Distillery.

We decided to grab some Mexican food at a nearby restaurant called Mariscos Nayarit. It was a tacky place inside of a converted building that had lousy food!

Being disappointed with the whole affair we headed back to the Busse Bus II because the next morning we couldn’t wait to get out of Dodge!
