With tears in our eyes we left Ari, Matt and Rylan to continue our summertime adventures. Next stop, the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We stayed at the Oasis campground located in Mosca, CO.

Sands dunes? In Colorado? Yes – actually the tallest dunes in the United States! Why?
Google explanation: ”The Great Sand Dunes came from the weathering of the surrounding mountains, which provided sand that accumulated in the San Luis Valley after the large lake drained. Predominate winds carried the sand towards the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which acted as a barrier causing the sand to pile up.”
All I know is that it was very cool to see! We were able to “ride” the dunes on snowboards and sleds.

Bear enjoyed being able to go with us! The only National Park that we have visited that allows dogs.
After getting sand in every crevice, we decided to leave and head over to Zapata Falls. Short hike that ended with the falls.

Bear loved playing in the ice cold water.
We returned to the Busse Bus II and got cleaned up before going to the Sand Dunes Recreation hot springs. We opted for the adult-only area which was fantastic! Check this out:

After an exhausting day, we rested up because we had a long day of travel planned for the next day.
