The Toll roads around Chicago are under construction and it really sucked to drive the coach. Slow going to stay safe! We entered another state:

We traveled to South Haven, MI and stayed at the Sunnybrook RV Resort. The place recently expanded and we were able to get a spot in the new area next to the lake.

They had some nice amenities that were very family oriented:

Here’s our site:

Sunnybrook is interesting because the spots around the lake are purchasable to Class A RVs only. Their secondary pool / clubhouse is only for owners. Seems like the place intentionally subdivides different types of RVers from each other and also between owners and renters. We would not come back here.

The resort was located near the Kal-Haven bike trail that runs between South Haven and Kalamazoo on an old rail bed. The trail was great and allowed me to get some miles in.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to complete the entire trail, but I got about 28 miles of it done!

As Katrina and I were heading out to lunch, the entire park lost power. No big deal as we fired up the generator. So nice having options! We were going to the Three Blondes Brewing joint.

But when we walked in they had lost power too. Plan B: decided to check out downtown South Haven and catch a little lunch at Cafe Julia. The lunch was very good and due to its’ proximity to the downtown area we were able to walk the streets and do a little shopping. Picked up some small gifts (grandparents now) and some olive oil. Killed some time by getting pedicures nearby at K Nails.

It’s so nice to have someone work on your toes and feet! Although I couldn’t help giggling when she rubbed my arches!

Then we went to The River Bottom for some delicious appetizers and cocktails. This speakeasy was very cool!

The River Bottom is located in the basement of the Black River Tavern. It has a special entrance and it real felt like a hidden watering hole during prohibition!

Since the Elks Lodge was right around the corner we headed up there.

The view from the Elks balcony was great!

The Elks were nice to chat with. Both of our drinks were cheaper than one in the speakeasy.

The following day we headed up to visit with Brian and Kirby Stephens in Saugatuck, MI. We had stayed with them a couple of years ago so it was good seeing them again. We met them at the Pennyroyal Cafe & Provisions for a wonderful lunch. Afterwards we headed to their house and then walked around the downtown area. Apparently we were having too much fun as we forgot to take any pictures!

Back to Sunnybrook because the next morning we were heading up to Muskegon to stay at our first Elks Lodge. I was excited because that was one of the reasons that I joined the Elks!
