We drove all the way from Orange Beach, AL to the Myakka River Motorcoach Resort in Port Charlotte. It took us about nine hours to travel the 587 miles.
We passed a lot of downed trees along I-10 near the Big Bend of Florida. Obviously there was a lot of damage due to Hurricane Helene (little did we know how much damage there was across seven states).
We finally pulled through the gates of Myakka:
So good to be home!
Our summer travels included seeing two oceans (Arctic and Pacific), the Gulf of Mexico, numerous rivers, bays, glaciers, mountains, and trees (some real big ones in California)! Stopped in multiple National Parks and saw countless wild animals (Grizzles were my favorite). Took numerous excursions: planes, boats, and floats. Took the Busse Bus across three bodies of water on ferries (the one in Dawson City being the hairiest of all).
We traveled 15,003 miles, visited 20 states, and four Canadian Provinces.
The costs this year were absorbent: six new rear tires, new chassis batteries, replaced hydraulic pump, replaced water pump, major annual maintenance on coach, major annual maintenance on truck, replaced one coach air conditioner, replaced toppers on three slide outs, diesel, gas, excursions, ferries, campgrounds, food, and adult beverages: big bucks!
We traveled with friends along the way – Jeff & Molli Wills with Sheree Evans, and Barry & Rhody Hausauer. We also got a chance to visit friends and family at their hometown – Bill & Tamara Burkard, Linda & Scott Black, Darrell & Lucinda Primrose, Barb & Tom Klein, Hope Dolan, Rob & Kristin Joy with their daughter McKenna Murphy and baby Myla, Debbie Pickus, Bill Garcia, Ari & Matt Anderson with precious baby Rylan, Christy & Mike Holevinski, Keenan Busse & Sarah Holevinski, Debbie Hilgenberg, Becky Gardipee, Harvey & Shelly Ward and Kevin & Janey Smith. We also got the opportunity to stay in our townhome in Winter Park where we got to see friends from Myakka: Larry & Bouraine Smith and Cub & Marge Steward. We also made new friends along the way!
We had a fabulous time checking out the Canadian Fairmont Hotels in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Whistler, and in Victoria. For additional fun we stopped in five speakeasies.
The best part of traveling is spending time with your significant other!
Great summer!!!
