With the hurricane Helene looking like it was going to stay around the Big Bend of Florida we decided to move closer to our final destination, Myakka River Motorcoach Resort, our winter home. We stayed at the Buena Vista Motorcoach Resort located in Orange Beach, Alabama.

We selected a site that included a pizza oven because we had some dough that needed cooking.

Very nice resort with two outdoor pools and one indoor pool. It is also within walking distance to the beach and easy bike ride to paths. We actually looked at this place right after we purchased our coach and thought people were nuts to spend so much money on some pavers. Little did we know that we would be doing the same thing a few years later at Myakka.

You know when you are back south because when you take your dog for a walk you have to be on the lookout:

Our plan was to stay a few days and keep an eye on Helene before determining when we would continue our journey. We passed our time with bike riding – great paths on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. Found this gigantic chair along the way:

We also hit one of the outdoor pools that had a lazy river where we met a nice couple from Louisiana that told us about Big Mike’s Steakhouse where we had to go for dinner. The joint opens at 4pm and they told us to be there at least 1/2 hour early if you didn’t want to wait for a table. Off we went:

Got there about 3:20pm and we were third in line. Great steaks! Katrina and I split “The Big Mike” a 24 oz. Ribeye and each had a salad – wonderful!

Katrina found some pickle play and I got to ride the trail again. After we got back together we walked over to the beach:

Since it was a weekday we had the beach to ourselves.

Ok, not really – there were some sandpipers around. Nice sand, nice beach!

We went to Coastal Orange Beach for dinner since it sat along the gulf.

Fun place! We loved their sign – CoastAL(abama) Orange Beach. Also loved the No Shoes Nation signs.

Since it had been a few days since Helene passed we thought that the roads would be open and diesel available we decided to head back to the Myakka River Motorcoach Resort the next day.

Heading home!
