Leaving later than anticipated started our trip with a little stress, but taking the newer 130 Tollway without diesel stations along the way made it much more stressful. We drove down to Seguin before stopping for fuel. It’s the lowest that we ever let the tank get:

Yikes! Filled up with 123 gallons, which meant we still had 27 gallons of fuel left (in theory) or about 175 miles. We don’t like to push it!

Got set up at the San Antonio / Alamo KOA:

Nice place! Although the local squirrels terrorized Bear to no end!

See the little vermin heckling Bear! Ruthless.

The following day Katrina played some pickleball while I got to ride my bike on the nearby Salado Creek path.

Great path that I planned on riding every day! I learned that San Antonio plans to complete the entire loop around the city. I hope that someday I’ll be able to ride it.

Keenan came over for dinner as Sarah had to work. We made the halibut that we got for free up in Alaska. It was so good!

On Saturday morning we met up with Keenan and Sarah at the Jingu House located in the Japanese Tea Garden.

Afterwards we walked around the gardens a bit:

Lovely area that reminded us of the Bouchart gardens in Victoria.

Then Katrina and Sarah went Mother-of-the-groom dress shopping while Keenan and I found a bar to watch the Illini football game. Illinois won the game and should be ranked in the top 25 come Monday. That’s always a kiss of death for us!

We needed to get back to the bus as we had a dishwasher issue that a technician was coming out to investigate. False alarm as the dishwasher just needed to get plugged in to work. The tech stated that the unit needs about ten minutes to “reset”. Should have plugged it in earlier and tried it, oh well, what’s another $89 bucks?

Sarah picked up Katrina and they went to look at wedding dresses. Sarah had previously picked one out with her mom, but was second guessing her decision. Sarah stated that her dress needed lagniappe. (Northerners look up the word). Keenan and I watched some more college games.

Sunday morning was more of the same (pickleball for Katrina and bike riding for me). Afterwards we worked on some issues that needed to be corrected on the bus (clean out downspouts, AC maintenance, TTPS (tire monitoring) battery replacements, etc.).

Since Keenan and Sarah were busy; Katrina, Bear and I found a restaurant called Cappy’s where we could all grab a bite to eat. Good food, but it took forever to get our food!

During the day on Monday we got some more things done around the coach. Also got in some pickleball and bike riding.

Katrina and I got to the restaurant earlier than we needed so we stopped for a drink at La Gloria where they had some neat signs:

We then met up with Keenan and Sarah at the Brasserie Mon Chou Chou for some French food. The restaurant is near their apartment in The Pearl (converted old brewery). Really neat area! The food was outstanding!

Tuesday Sarah and Kat went wedding dress shopping. Sarah found the right one with lagniappe.

Since they got done earlier than anticipated, we all went for a quick dinner at the Velvet Taco.

Great tacos near their place.

Wednesday morning Kat played pickle and I rode my bike (I have an internal goal of hitting 1,500 miles this summer) that night after dinner at home we went to the Boutique Speakeasy located inside the Taqueria Los Cuates.

What a fun little hidden speakeasy that excelled with tequila drinks!

On Thursday Katrina and I did more of the same until we met up with Keenan and Sarah for dinner at Chart House in Tower of the Americas. The Tower of the Americas was built in 1968 for the Hemisfair World’s Fair celebrating San Antonio’s 250th anniversary.

It was a lovely dinner and great views of the city of San Antonio. BTW, San Antonio is the seventh largest city in the United States, I didn’t know that either.

On Friday Katrina and I continued our routine in the morning. Keenan came over to watch the Illini game while I grilled some Kat’s turkey burgers and asparagus. The food was good and the game was fantastic (#24 Illinois beat #22 Nebraska in overtime). Illinois moved up to #19 and faces #9 Penn State next week Saturday!

On Saturday Kat and I went to farmers market located at the Pearl

and Keenan was able to join us. We parked under the expressway and saw this wonderful artwork. After purchasing some great stuff, Katrina and I had lunch at Domingo for Mexican food located on the Riverwalk. Unfortunately Keenan couldn’t join us, but he did drop us off at the restaurant so we didn’t have to walk too far in the heat.

For dinner Katrina and I went to Stout’s Signature which had 5.0 stars with over 3,500 reviews. Needless to say, our expectations were high. The food was good and the service was slow, but we didn’t want to be the ones to ruin their perfect record.

After dinner we walked over to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts which was having a celebration of being there for ten years. Food, drinks, music, and dancing. It was fun to be a part of the festivities.

The following morning we packed up and headed over to the Houston area to visit with a friend. BTW, I hit my goal of 1,500 miles on my bike!

Goodbye San Antonio and thank you Keenan and Sarah for your hospitality!
