After a wonderful tour of the giant trees National Parks, we headed over to Paso Robles where we planned on staying for just under two weeks. During our stay there we had to fly back to Chicago for a wedding and a Rylan fix. See separate post for that excursion!

We pulled into the Sun Outdoors Paso Robles (or Cava Robles) campground. The place is beautiful and we had stayed there a few times in the past. We love the area for two reasons: wonderful wine country (the next Napa?) and our friends, Harvey and Shelly Ward live there.

We met with Marlee, the gal that would be watching Bear for the weekend while we were in Chicago. She was fantastic! Bear loved being with her both at our coach and at her house.

That night we were able to head over to the Ward’s house and then walk into the Paso Robles downtown area for dinner. We put our names in at the Fish Gaucho Mexican Restaurant, before having a drink at Parchetto’s.

We were gone until Monday afternoon, but when we got back Bear returned from Marlee’s house and seemed happy to see us! That evening the Ward’s had us over to their house for grilled steaks! Harvey did an excellent job on the barbie! We also got to see the two apartments that they built behind their house (outside only due to tenants).

The next morning Katrina played some pickleball while I got a chance to walk Bear up to Starbucks. He enjoyed his first puppicino in months/years – he loved it! Once Katrina returned we headed out with Harvey and Shelly to see the pool house that Harvey has been working on. Check these pictures out:

Truly unbelievable!

On the drive back we stopped for lunch at the Loading Chute in Creston. Creston is famed for a connection with Jesse James.

Cute place!

That night we met up with the Ward’s at the California Coast Beer Company for Taco Tuesday.

Fun evening!

On Wednesday Katrina pickled and Bear got another puppicino before we headed out to try new to us wineries. First up was McPrice Myers Vineyard where we split a tasting and ordered a cheese plate. Good wines and cheese!

Next we went to the Parrish Family Vineyard and sat outside on their porch. Guess what? Reds were good! Their food menu looked delish but unfortunately the kitchen was closed that day.

That night we met up with the Ward’s and some of their friends for a Greek night at the Paso Market Walk.

On Thursday Katrina and I had a typical morning before hitting the pool. Not many campers around as school started up again and families had other priorities. After getting cleaned up we met the Ward’s for Music in the Park in downtown Paso.

Wonderful local band that played our favorites from the 70’s and 80’s. We brought a charcuterie board along which was very yummy!

Once we finished the board and the music was dying down, we went to the Eleven Twenty-two Speakeasy.

A must do stop if you are ever in Paso Robles! Phones are not allowed inside, so no pictures. But, trust me – go!

We broke our typical routine on Friday and Katrina and I went to get pedicures.

I know what some of you are thinking, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! And for inquiring minds, I chose a clear polish!

That evening we drove to Atascadero to have dinner at the Mr. Q Restaurant where we met some of the Ward’s friends, Cindy and Brandt Myas and their traveling friends; Joe and Lisa. Wonderful, and I mean wonderful meal!

We didn’t realize that Atascadero was also hosting a cruise night where all types of vehicles traversed the street in front of us. Check out these vehicles:

During the day on Saturday I headed to Lowe’s and saw this EV Charging area, complete with diesel generators! Only in California!

We then drove over to Cambria for lunch and to take the dogs for a walk along the Pacific Ocean.

Much cooler there and we got to see whales!

That night Shelly had as scheduled for an exclusive dinner at their favorite winery: Lone Madrone.

The eight of us brought our own wine and had to tell a story regarding why we selected that wine.

Very interesting concept. I brought a bottle of Evoke wine called Climax. Ask me about the story as I can’t write about it! The food was good, the experience great, and the friendship priceless.

The next morning we rode bikes from the Ward house through Peachy Canyon.

Beautiful ride! We stopped for pizza at Opolo Vineyards. You could only purchase food if you purchased wine! Oh well, we were hungry and made the sacrifice!

Beautiful vineyard and good wine! We didn’t drink too much as we had to ride our bikes back to their house.

On the bike ride back to the Ward house a family of wild turkeys crossed the road:

Why did the turkeys cross the road? I have no idea, but there’s a joke there somewhere.

On the drive back to the Busse Bus a Trump Train passed us (it lasted about ten minutes).

After getting cleaned up we went back to the Ward’s with fish that I had caught back in Myakka. Harvey again was a master on his Traeger and the meal was fantastic! Sad that our time was drawing to a close. We said our goodbyes to the Wards and headed back to the Busse Bus.

We left the following morning, but before then we saw Cindy and Brandt again as they had parked their fifth-wheel nearby. Nice to get to know them and who knows, our paths may cross again.

Thank you Harvey and Shelly for your hospitality! Always wonderful and always appreciated!
