It was with a tear in our eyes that we left the Chicago area after getting to spend so much time with our grandson, Rylan. He is growing up so fast! And such a cutie at eight months! We will get to see him again in August when we fly in for a wedding. I bet he’ll be walking by then. It was equally nice to spend time with Ari and Matt as well – that goes without saying!

As we turned the Busse Bus west we headed to our next stop in Des Moines, Iowa where we mooch-docked at Kevin and Janey Smith’s place. The Smiths are fellow Myakkans and their place is just across the street from us and a few spots down. Over the past few years they “adopted” Bear as they love taking him to the local hangout called The Bean. Bear loves going there with them as he gets to ride in their golf cart and they order him a puppy lunch – usually a burger with two treats. Katrina and I took Bear there and the server asked us if that was Kevin’s dog. We laughed and informed her that he was indeed ours.

Turkey Time? That’s the name of the concessions company that they own. We were flabbergasted by the number of “stands” that they have.

Their main event is the Iowa State Fair which is located a few blocks away where they sell beer, turkey, and smoothies among other things. There have been many a Myakkan who have stayed with them during the Fair and worked in the beer truck as well as getting to see all the attractions the Fair has to offer. That is on our list as well hopefully next summer!

We parked next to one of their buildings and realized that they had eight RV spots complete with full hook ups!

Talk about a sweet set up!

For dinner they took us to The Latin King Italian Dining establishment where we had a wonderful meal.

I had the Steak Duburgo simmered in butter, garlic and basil. Absolutely delicious! Kevin also had a steak that looked fabulous. Janey and Katrina ordered the Chicken Spiedini: marinated chicken chunks breaded and char-broiled then served with amiogo sauce. Not sure what that was but it tasted delish!

Back at their place we chatted a bit and then headed for bed. Janey and Katrina played some pickleball the next morning on their court. I guess Janey caught the fever as much as Katrina did!

Kevin and Janey – thank you for your hospitality and we’ll see ya back at Myakka!

BTW, Bear was sad when we departed as he loved seeing you both and playing at your place.
