Katrina and I have been friends with Kevin and Kathleen Fluharty for over thirty years. During that time we have traveled together and spent time at each other’s houses celebrating holidays and just plain old vacations. During all those years we have been able to watch their two children grow up and prosper into adulthood. David, their oldest, and Maxine are about the same ages as Ariana and Keenan so it had always been fun getting us all together. Even though they hail from Delaware we had been able to see them about once a year! Jenny, David’s soon-to-be wife is a teacher and has had Keenan send space related items to her students after Keenan started working for NASA. David and Jenny moved to the Charleston, South Carolina where David manages a very popular restaurant.
Katrina and I drove the truck up from Myakka for the weekend to help them celebrate their nuptials. We hadn’t traveled that far in a vehicle since we got the coach. Definitely a smaller way to go. We stayed with Kathleen at a VRBO that she had rented along side the Stono River. It was cute, but dated place nearby the wedding venue. We were able to join the rehearsal party after they practiced at a downtown bar and grill that Kathleen had rented.
It was great seeing everyone and meeting new people.
As an added benefit, Maxine crashed with us so we got to spend some quality time with her and her boyfriend Mason.
Katrina and I puttered around during the day of the wedding getting some essentials (shirt and tie) for me. The wedding was held at The Island House, a converted mansion for just such events that sat on the same river but on the other side and closer to the ocean. The ceremony was beautiful!
We found our seats in a unusual way:
Oyster shells for name plates! Very unusual and fitting for the location. Here’s the menu:
Leading up to the dinner there was appetizer tables, bars, and photographers set up around the grounds.
Check out the new shirt and tie! Stylish! My favorite was the oyster bar where two guys shucked the night away.
They actually ordered 2000 oysters!
After dinner we hit the dance floor and got more pictures:
One of my favorite things that they had done:
They will be able to keep that light forever!
Here’s the happy couple:
Katrina and I headed back to the VRBO as we had the long drive the next day. The wedding party plus went downtown to continue to celebrate until the wee hours of the morning. We must be getting older :).
I guess that the saying on the “swag” huggies that they gave out were true:
Party like a Fluharty!
Congratulations David and Jenny aka Mr. & Mrs. Fluharty!
