After a long morning of traveling we arrived in Denver just before our first guest, Kathleen Fluharty got to the airport. After picking her up we headed to Torchy’s for lunch – love Torchy’s! Afterwards we stopped and picked up some waterproof bins that we wanted to use for storing our winter clothes. Up and over the pass and down into Winter Park. We finally got to see the place that we purchased sight unseen in August. Check it out:

We own the end unit which gives us great views of the sunrises over the Continental Divide. It also allows us to have a hot tub nestled next to the building. We actually own the townhome with three other families which means we get to use it one week a month. This was our week to use in November.

The Winter Park ski area actually had a limited opening while we were there. We learned that this time of year isn’t the best time to visit as the summer activities on the mountain and surrounding areas are over and ski season hasn’t started yet. That meant that a lot of the restaurants weren’t open. We did manage to find some that were and made the most of it.

One night we went over to Tabernash to have dinner at the Tabernash Tavern.

One of our favorite places to eat! I enjoyed reading this sign that they had posted:

I actually do….

For drinks and dinner one night we tried to go to Adventures Decanted which is a wine bar and that evening they were hosting a “speakeasy” format where you had to access the place through the back door. We found the back door and had to walk across furniture boxes to get to the bar. After realizing that we were the only non-employees there we started to leave. The owner met up with us and told us that she was redecorating her place during “shoulder season” and that they would be open again in a few weeks. We told her that in the local brochure it stated that they were open now, something that she will need to rectify. She was nice enough to offer us some free wine tastes and we commented that we would definitely be back!

We ended up at the Unravel Cafe and Bar across the street located in the Gravity Haus hotel. The bartender mixed up some wonderful espresso martinis and after some discussion with him we learned that there is a discount for locals. Guess what? We’re locals! Good to know.

It was colder than we are used to which made us question our sanity about purchasing a place in the mountains. Good thing that we brought (and left) some winter clothes.

But that coldness makes the hot tub feel so much better:

Apologies for the darkness, but that’s when we went so that’s what I got.

Towards the end of our stay we wanted to show Kathleen the base of Winter Park.

You can see the groomed ski hills behind us. One of the few slopes that was already open for the skiing diehards.

It was fantastic having one of our long time friends join us for our first visit to our new place. All-in-all we loved what we purchased and we will definitely return during the summer and winter months!

PSA: If anyone is interested is spending a wonderful week in the mountains, let us know as we got you covered.
