After seeing the Hausauer’s drive away we continued our journey to Douglas, WY. Douglas has the nickname “Jackalope”, the mythical animal of North American folklore. Don’t ask me why. We stayed at a Harvest Host at the Douglas Community Golf Course where we had an excellent view over the lush green fairways.
We went into the 19th Hole to have an appetizer and a drink after we got set up. I told our server that Katrina wanted to know where the Jackalopes could be found and she laughed.
While we were enjoying our cocktail on the porch we struck up a conversation with the couple sitting next to us. We learned that Mike Lundy was a cowboy and that he was participating in the Colorado Reined Cow Horse Non Pro Derby at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in a few hours. Since we are Yellowstone fans we thought of Rip, John, Beth and Jimmy breaking horses to herd cattle on the ranch. We decided that it sounded like fun and headed over there to watch. We were able to sit in the bleachers with Lynsey Hughson his girlfriend, to watch the activities. Katrina really enjoyed it as it reminded her of the days when she competed.
Watching the horses cut, stop and wrangle the cows was thrilling! Here are the four of us:

I even got to pet one of his horses, Sasha:
Watching the action was great and a little dusty! Good luck Mike in your future rides!
We had a nice unexpected time in Douglas during our quick visit.
The next morning we continued our journey north with our destination Medora.
