After getting four new tires on the truck, we started our journey up to Amarillo. We encountered another day of slow going as we hit construction and traffic delays. 320 miles in total that took us over five hours with about a 40 minute delay due to the construction.
We pulled into the Oasis RV Resort in Amarillo, TX and our friends, Becky and Alan Gardipee, pulled in right behind us. Both of us are heading up to an AIM Rally in Colorado.
We had stayed at this resort in December of 2018 and explored the local area including the famous Cadillac Ranch where old cadillacs have been stuck in the ground in the middle of a field. Kinda like a modern spin on Stonehenge. Katrina and Becky went over to Trendz Boutique & Salon, a boutique that is run by Tracy Cortesi, a BeautiControl gal that Katrina met decades ago. After both of them purchased some merchandise and returned to the resort, Katrina and I went to meet up with Tracy and her boyfriend, Chuck Moreno, for dinner and a night out on the town.
We ended up in downtown Amarillo at a place called Crush Wine Bar Grill where there was a musical act playing. We got to sit on the roof and have a drink while we ate dinner. Later, Lindsay Lane started up and she was very good and fun!
Boy, does she have energy!
The following day we hung by the resort until about 3pm when Tracy came over to lounge by the pool with Katrina. It was hot, but overcast and the pool had a lot of children in it splashing around. After getting changed, we headed over to their house to pick them up and then we went to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. We were told that this canyon was the second largest in the United States (after the Grand Canyon).
It was very unexpected driving across the flat prairie and then all of a sudden the canyon opens up.
We drove all the way through and stopped at No. 10 to explore and hike the Big Cave. Not much of a hike, but it was very enjoyable seeing the cave:
We took some fun pictures along the way:
It was a very peaceful (almost zenish) location:
So much for that zen feeling, we ran into this guy on the road back to the truck:
A huge Tarantula! It was actually very interesting watching him walk across the road. Four out of eight legs moving in unison.
On the drive back we were able to catch the sunset over the rim:
Strange rock formations:
I had to tweak it a little!
We stopped for dinner at Hummers Sports Cafe for dinner and drinks:
A good place to grab a bite!
It was great seeing Tracy and Chuck for a few evenings!
