A bit north from Apple Valley was another place that offered lots for sale called Deer Creek Motorcoach Resort. It was a small place with about 70 sites in the middle of the country. In fact, on the backside of the lot that we rented was a pasture with grazing cows. Moos all around! They had a small Par 3, nine hole gold course as well. The people that we met, although a bit early in the season, were very nice and explained which lots were for sale, some with casitas already built on them. Their friendliness was easy to see as soon as you got to your site as each visitor site had a marque with the visitor’s names on them. Great idea!
One couple told us of a nice Mexican restaurant named El Rio Grande in the town of Galax, so we headed out to check it out. It was ok and we are still on a quest to find an excellent Mexican dinner. The town of Galax has something to do with music and/or guitars or fiddles – I’m not sure what.
If anyone knows, please enlighten me.
When we left Apple Valley I noticed a nail in one of the trucks tires. I needed to find a place that could plug for me. Found a great little place. Check out the size of this obstruction:
Lucky we didn’t have a blow out on the drive up.
We learned of a nice bike trail in town so we headed out.
Beautiful ride called New River Trail which is along the river!
After our ride, we wanted to stop at Creek Bottom Brewing Company but found out that it as closed on that day. Upon pulling out of the parking lot I looked back and could only see one bike in the rear view mirror. We pulled over and discovered that we were dragging my bike. Apparently I did not secure it as well as I should have. Minor damage and still usable, but ouch!
When we returned we were talking to some people whilst playing with Bear and discovered that the Olde Beau Motorcoach Resort was about 12 mile away. We had stayed there two years ago. Friends of ours, Debbie and Glen Hooten have a place there so we called them up and they were in town so we met them for a pizza at Marioochi’s in Sparta, NC.
It was great catching up with them. We learned that they had put their place at Olde Beau up for sale and that they were going to sell their RV at the end of the season. They are building a house near Jacksonville, FL and plan on changing their lifestyle. Best of luck to them with their next phase!
Up and out the next morning.
