Stayed at the Camper Village Campground in Dry Ridge, KY overnight on our way back north. One of the most cost effective stays on our travels. Lots of full time residents there. Arrived at 6:30pm, set up, played with Bear some, watched a little TV, ate a little dinner and then off to bed. Not much to say about the place, although the folks checking us in were very nice.
The exciting part about the day was the travel adventures:
After we hooked up the truck we headed back to the coach and determined that the door latch was broken and we couldn’t get in! Bear was inside with no air conditioning on. We called Newmar and posted for help on the Dutch Star facebook page. Newmar told us that we either could drill the latch or break a window to gain access.
I started drilling:
Multiple other campers came to help. One of the worst part was that we were blocking other campers from leaving.
Took about an hour and a half to get inside and back on the road.
Awful seeing any part of the Busse Bus looking like this! Finally got into the coach and could be on our way. Not too bad for the first time a minor failure had delayed our travels. Good thing that we had a appointment at the Newmar Service Center a few days later. Guess we’ll have to add that to our list!
The other exciting part of the drive was stopping in Lexington to have a late lunch with Yolanda and Jerry Davis. We went to Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers – seems like a Culver’s to me with the burgers cooked like Krekels Custard (if you haven’t had a Krekels you are missing out on a little slice of heaven in Decatur, IL) Parked at a Cabella’s – nice RV spots in their lot. If we ever need a free overnight stay we will need to check them out again.
We stayed with them last year and it was great catching up for a few short hours.
