Kat and I have decided to purchase a RV Lot somewhere along the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. Since we will be wintering in Florida it makes the most sense to own vs renting. So, over the next few months we will be visiting all the Motorcoach resorts that offer ownership. We want a motorcoach resort because they only allow Class A recreational vehicles – usually keeping the place looking good and the values of the property higher.
So it begins, Golden Palms was first up. The resort is east of Ft. Myers and has 112 lots for sale. A bit farther away from the Gulf than we would like, but the amenities and the lot size were good. Added benefit here was that David and KeithAnn Wood purchased a lot here and built a casita already – therefore we already have built-in friends! Check out these pictures of the resort:
Site Plan and Clubhouse.
Hot tub, pool and exterior kitchen.
Typical lot – complete with a palm tree! I’ve always wanted to own a piece of property where I can plant a palm tree. You can also see the lake with a fountain that almost all the lots back up to. Very pretty!
We started to put together a list of the must haves when deciding on where to purchase. At this point, we had three: 1) location (needs to be near a beach and good restaurants), 2) people (fun, outgoing and active), and 3) on a body of water (lake, pond, gulf or river). I’m sure that there will be more criteria after we get into this more.
The Woods introduced us to a number of their friends there. One night we all got together and played LCR. Great fun! We also met a couple that was looking at a lot as well and the three couples got together for a night out:
Mike and Anita Noah, the Woods, the Busse and Laurie (who works at Golden Palms) all enjoyed a pizza at the Saucy Meatball. Good pizza, but not thick crusted!
While we were there, Golden Palms sold six lots and with the Tampa RV Show only days away we thought that we should buy one too. We did, Lot number 78. We did get a 30-day out because we weren’t sure because we hadn’t seen other places yet. We will have to wait and see.
Therefore, we are now (at least temporary) owners of a RV Lot in Florida that we will be able to use without being concerned about sunny Florida filling up.
I guess I’m going to get that piece of property where I can plant a palm tree! Yay, me!
