Stayed at Liberty Harbor RV in Jersey City, NJ. Needed to follow directions in and out exactly that the campground gave us. Glad they did! Maneuvering the Busse Bus around in the city could be very stressful.
Liberty Harbor RV Park is located right on the New Jersey harbor with views of yachts moored up to the pier.
I swear that we have seen at least one of these yachts in St. Martin!
This boat picture is not a yacht, but I have never seen one of these before:
A human peddled drinking bar paddle boat! I’ve seen similar on land, but never on the water.
We walked over to Liberty Park which has beautiful views:
New York City, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island:
We spent the night in as we knew that the next couple of days would be tiring.
We got tickets for the US Open on the following day! We had been to the Open before – ten years ago – so it was really nice to go back and see the improvements that have been made to the park over the years.
We got to see the Women’s Singles match in Arthur Ashe Stadium where Bencic beat the number one seed from Japan, Osaka. Then we walked over to see the Women’s Doubles match where the United States duo of Gauff & McNally (two up-and-coming US players) lost to veterans Azarenka & Barty.
Stopped for a final picture of Arthur Ashe Stadium:
The following day we took our bikes across to New York City on the ferry.
Started our ride by visiting the World Trade Center complex and the 9/11 Memorial.
The 9/11 Memorial is breathtaking! It really portrays an ominous feeling:
Two identical square holes in the ground, one for each footprint of a twin tower, with a smaller hole in the middle. Water cascades from ground level and then into the abyss in the middle. The names of all those lost in each building are carved into the granite “railing” that outlines the outer hole. I don’t know who designed this, but they did an outstanding job!
We stopped for lunch a local deli to get pastrami sandwiches – typical of NYC. Then we rode up to Central Park and around the entire outer circle.
Pictured are the Entrance at Columbus Circle and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. We stopped to wet our whistle at the Tavern On the Green.
And during the ride back to the ferry we took this picture by the USS Intrepid:
Seeing the Intrepid reminded me of one of the National Treasure movies where Nicholas Cage jumps off the deck. Thoroughly exhausted, we made our way back to the Busse Bus and crashed, but not before catching this sunset:
The next morning we walked with Bear over to Liberty Park where we found the New Jersey 9/11 Monument honoring those from New Jersey that were lost.
This memorial is called “Empty Sky” and depicts where the twin towers should have been from this vantage point. The names of those that were killed are carved in the sides of the structures. Again, a very powerful memorial!
We walked over to the Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal where two thirds of all the immigrants that passed through Ellis Island started their journey west.
A wonderful example of 1880’s architecture. Well maintained!
What’s the number one thing to do in New York City? See a play! We got tickets to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which has two parts. Part One at 2:00pm and Part Two at 7:30. It was a long day in the theatre.
A photographer took our picture once and then said “strike a pose”. So I did:
Let the show begin:
During the time in between the plays we got to walk around Times Square and ate some New York style pizza.
I prefer my Chicago style! I didn’t even need a fork and knife to eat this pizza. Lame. Give me a Giordano’s, Gino’s or a Lou’s any ole day!!!
Back into the theatre for Part Two:
Excellent plays! Being Harry Potter fans definitely helps. I recommend seeing these. Every detail has been incorporated into the theatre – even in the wallpaper:
See the H’s? It is actually part of the production – I won’t tell you how – go see the plays.
Back to the Busse Bus as tomorrow we depart for Delaware to visit our friends – the Fluharty’s. Along the way we will pick up a special guest….
