Drove through New Brunswick on our way to Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Along the way we saw these signs at the end of construction areas.  New Brunswickiens (is there such a word?) must be Jimmy Buffet fans:

I’m not gonna tell you why!  Just think about it.

Arrived on the outskirts of Halifax and stayed at the Wayside Campground.  We had time to walk across the street and catch the sunset:

Nice out-of-the-way campground with great views!  Caught a quick dinner up the street in Peggy’s Cove:

Btw – that’s Kat’s purse, not mine!

The next morning we drove into Halifax for lunch.  We heard that the thing to eat in Halifax is Donairs – so we went to the restaurant called “King of Donairs”.

What’s a Donair?  Basically a gyro without tzatziki sauce, but with donair sauce (a sweet mayo-based sauce).  All in all, not bad.  All in all, not terribly good either.

We continued our exploration of in downtown Halifax.  Interesting facts: the first underwater cable between Europe and North America ran into Halifax and there was an awful vessel explosion in the harbor that devastated the entire city in 1917.

Walked the downtown and saw these sights:

The Halifax Public Gardens:

Stopped for drinks at The Stubborn Goat:

A wonderful little beer garden on the wharf made from shipping containers.

Final picture of the day was of the Theodore Too:

A cute little tugboat.

The next day we hiked in Peggy’s Cove and saw the lighthouse:

Took a nice hike on the Polly Cove Hiking Trail along the coast:

On the drive back to Wayside, we stopped at the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial.  On September 2, 1998 this flight crashed out in the ocean about five miles offshore.  All 229 on board lost their lives:

Impactful memorial.

Kat and I dropped Bear off at the rig, grabbed some wine and cheese (crackers, too) and headed back over to the Peggy’s Cove lighthouse to catch the sunset:

Halifax and Peggy’s Cove are beautiful places along the Atlantic coast!
