Leaving Quebec City was a little depressing as we really enjoyed that city. We continued our drive up along the St. Lawrence River on the Canadien side and stopped in Rivière-Du-Loup staying at Camping Du Quai. Nice campground along the river and right across the street was the Christmas Shop: Noel Au Chateau:
And they lit it up at night:
Cute place that we visited, to bad that we don’t still have our large Christmas tree anymore as we found some nice ornaments that would have fit in well.
The next day we scheduled a whale watching tour on the AML Cruises. Got to see Fin, Beluga, Minke whales and Grey Seals.
We learned that the Atlantic Ocean tide pushes up the St. Lawrence River during high tide and that there is a natural underwater shelf that pushes food up to the surface. That makes this place an unbelievable location to watch the whales eating the plankton. It’s somewhat like Golden Corral.
We also got to see some wonderful sites along the way:
The nicest part of this excursion was meeting Hedda and Roger Cohen from Boston. It was nice to exchange “war-stories” of life on the road while motoring out to the shelf area.
There was a small rocky / sandy beach near the pier where we were able to take Bear so that he could play in the water.
Bear got to make a new friend. The funniest part was when Kat threw Bear’s water toy a little to far out and Bear wouldn’t go get it. It took a lot of coaxing, but Bear finally decided that his toy was more important to him than his fear of drowning. He did great doggy-paddling out past his comfort zone to retrieve his prized water toy!
We then headed into town to see the falls on the river Loup. Nice falls and hike:
We stopped in town for a beer at the Aux Fous Brassant Microbrasserie:
That night we met Hedda and Roger for dinner at Au Boucaneus.
Roger and I had the lobster dinner for $26.99 CAD! 1 1/4 pounder for $27? That’s like $18 US! What a deal!
Look how happy Roger and I are!
We decided to stop for ice cream at a little place near their campground. I thought that I would be adventurous and try a new flavor – don’t remember what it was other than awful! After I finished it I ordered a more familiar flavor and enjoyed the second one much better.
Off to our next stop – safe travels Hedda and Roger!
