We wanted to stop about halfway to Atlanta from Gulf Shores and we found a nice place in Montgomery, AL for a two night stay. After driving around I realized what a diachotomy this place was. Let me explain:
First, we stayed at The Woods RV Park that didn’t have any trees:
Why call it “The Woods”?
Second, when we took the dogs to the dog park we were blown away with the poverty and the terrible state of the houses that we drove by. Then upon getting to the park, state-of-the-art:
Beautifully adorned with signage and a fountain. The rest of the park was just as stunning:
It seems to me that some of that money spent museums and grounds and dog parks could have been better used in helping the local residents. Just saying…
Thirdly, we visited both the first White House of the Confederacy and Dr. Martin Luther King’s first congregation about six blocks apart.
Talk about your ying and yang. We will have to spend more time here exploring and getting a better understanding if this place called Montgomery.
